Mothlite on Facebook

MOTHLITE comprises of Daniel O'Sullivan, a composer / multi-instrumentalist from London. He writes and performs music with THE BIG PINK, SUNN O))), ÆTHENOR, GUAPO, ULVER, MIASMA & THE CAROUSEL OF HEADLESS HORSES, ALEXANDER TUCKER and GRUMBLING FUR. He recently scored the soundtrack for the acclaimed BBC Storyville documentary by Elizabeth Stopford, “I’m Not Dead Yet”.

Antti Uusimaki is a producer and engineer from Helsinki. He has worked with the likes of Brian Eno, Barry Adamson, Tindersticks, These New Puritans, Natasha Atlas and Klaxons. Uusimaki formed industrial band PANIC DHH (Digital Hardcore Recordings) with Robertson Furze in 2002, using his keyboard and programming skills, the band developed an unconventional amalgam of detailed sound design and extreme noise.

The Flax of Reverie. The album can be ordered on CD and Double Gatefold LP from the Southern Records webstore.

Conceived by horror prog maven Daniel O’Sullivan, Mothlite’s sumptuous debut suggests post-Syd Pink Floyd passing through the looking glass. Its sylvan procession of keys, violin and woodwind is dramatized by vocals that echo Talk Talk’s dislocated English melancholy and the choral spook of olde world madrigals. Mojo

Brakhage used found debris to startle viewers with a dynamic celebration of colour and light, whereas The Flax of Reverie is original material cast in dusk and shifting shadows to trigger nostalgia and disquiet. Wire

Like some black-cowled Merlin straight out of a Kenneth Anger movie, serial collaborator Daniel O’Sullivan applies his blackened midas to yet another piece of perfect darkness scraped from the bowels of some forgotten Albion. Vice

Mothlite's debut is a mix of more organic Ulver type atmospherics, dark Pink Floyd, jazz, post-rock/ prog, dark psychedelics, modern classical and dank English air. All to make a wonderful rich and darkly tinged filmatic experience. Musique Machine

Something of a shadowy iconoclast, Daniel O'Sullivan has been making darkly sensuous music, heavy on the obscurantism, for some time now, be it with Guapo, Miasma & The Carousel Of Headless Horses, Æthenor or Sunn 0))). On his latest project he teams once more with programmer/producer Antti Uusimaki to script a beautifully composed macabre fairytale for adults... Grim like the Brothers, as heavy as an anvil made of clouds. Rock-a-Rolla

A lavish and multi-textured body of work, Flax Of Reverie sounds like post-rock grown up. Highly recommended. Boomkat

There's a feeling of delirium to Mothlite's debut, a whirling carousel of imagery and soundscapes which ripples from delicacy to tightly-controlled bursts of impressive energy. The simple description might be post-modern prog-opera; a better explanation would take around 50 minutes, and a deep listening with possible captivation by intricate and occasionally overpowering beauty as a consequence. Plan B

Slickly sewn into this by orchestrated insect rustlings is 'The One In The Water', in which Pink Floyd psychedelia and Lewis Carroll-esque lyrics frolic. Darker crevices are also unearthed as rumbling cellos and macabre choir pervade 'The Untouched Dew', while a sense-seducing bassoon gnaws at 'Neverbegoodwood'. NME

It is so richly composed, performed and produced. A testament to O'Sullivan's compositions and Uusimaki's production. The musical ideas are so clear and definite, Mothlite know exactly what they are doing, where they are taking us, and have created a unique and stunning album. Freq

A closeness to the listener, a fascinating way with melody that makes you question everything you thought you knew about tuneful songwriting, and an ability to be both comforting and unnerving often in the space of one sentence. Rockfeedback

Terrific London duo Mothlite deliver a mix of hypnotic, quasi-devotional spooked folk, eerie drones and ambient electronica, as on intriguing recent album, The Flax Of Reverie. Time Out

Truly immense Last week at Queen Elizabeth Hall. Been spinning the album and wearing your t-shirt since. It's a great soundtrack for my dreary commute as mornings get darker and evenings get... darker. Exactly the type of thing I'm getting into. Thanks a lot.

Would love to say I'll catch you again with Isis in Manchester, but it'd be a long shot considering I have a baby to feed and London made me skint.

Regards -

Gav.

Hello and thanks for the add.

It's with an unmeasured pleasure that i've disvovered your music : fresh, psychedelic, deep and sensitive; it give me shivers (especially "the one in the water" and "riverside" who torn and stroke my heartstrings)

I can only hope that your fantastic music will continue to embezzle Grace.

Whith all my love and respect,

Thibault
