one for all all for one
Despite the vast amounts of musicians and friends that worked on it, One For All All For One is the first record that Mquestionmark produces in complete autonomy.
Listening to the 11 tracks that compose the record it’s easy to perceive the hard and enthusiastic work that led to the creation of this album, which will be released on the 18th of September 2009 in 180 gram vinyl.
Fundamental ingredient is the cooperation with Andrea Sologni (Gazebo Penguins, My Awesome Mixtapes, Irma Vep and sound engineer for Giardini di Mirò) which played among different tracks on the album using a korg MS10, a Fender Rhodes, a vibraphone and banjo guitar. Together with the band, Andrea has mixed the album in January 2009 at “Il Borgo Studio” in Tuscany.
Alessandro Zanotti(Death of Anna Karina) is another key figures in the sound of the record, playing electric guitars on “Banana Bee” and “Horse Anthem”.
Last but not least Filippo Rosi, recorded electrig guitars on the opening track of the record: “I Hate My Work”.
The result of this essential cooperation is a bittersweet mix between smoothness and punchy rhythm, which not only characterize the more energetic songs of the side A of the record but also the more relaxed melodies of side B.
One For All All For One praise also the work of Mattianlaseppia (Sub Records) for the recording of some takes and of Paolo Pugliese (Les Fauves) for the mastering process, which was completed with the band between Mir Recording Station and Impo Stusio in Sassuolo, Italy. The LP artwork is a masterpiece made by Sara Gavioli, young Italian artist that perfectly rendered the genuiness of the record through its fairy-tale-style illustrations. ESSENTIAL DISCOGRAPHY: Six tracks EP, BadTrip records 2005 Crazy With Nocino EP, BadTrip records 2006 Vai Tra EP, BadTrip records 2006 Absolutely Pizza LP, BadTrip records 2007 We Are EP, BadTrip records 2009 One For All All For One LP, BadTrip records 2009
Luca Verzelloni, Simone Rocchelli and Laura Sghedoni started to play as Mquestionmark in the spring of 2005 and after a few months they decide to abandon any other musical project in which they were involved (Joe Leaman, Julie’s Haircut and Il Giorno del Pou) in order to dedicate all their energies in the new band.
In summer 2005 the band wins the prestigious Rodie Rock Festival and, in 2006, records the first album called Absolutely Pizza (BadTrip records 2007) with the cooperation of sound engineer Carlo Enrico Pinna.
The debut album contains 8 neurotic songs characterized by simple and straight-in-your face rock sound mixed with more dreamy moments, where the mind is free to float in space. This new sound led the critics to speak about Fugazi and Velvet Underground influences.
The first video “Object: Big Dick”, released only on the internet, was made in cooperation with Krakatoa Inc and was a great success in
the underground scene.
In the next couple of years the band toured Italy, from the top to the bottom.
In fact the strongest point of Mquestionmark has always been the live performances, which, thanks to their freshness, simplicity and sound impact, conquered more and more audience night after night.
In the meantime the band keeps experimenting in their studio composing new material and recording new ideas.
Thanks to this approach, ad to the know-how gained during hours of recording sessions, Mquestionmark became more and more independent in music production.
This journey reached its more intense moment in winter 2008, when the band, under the direction of drummer Luca Verzelloni, completely produces and records its second album:
One For All All For One.
Soon after the mixing process of the album, multi-instrumentalist Filippo Rosi (former Lineaviola guitarist) joins the band playng guitar and synthesizers. Thanks to its great expertise Filippo integrates perfectly in the band enabling to obtain the sound of the new record during live performances.
Headquarters of Mquestionmark is the Mir Recording Station, a place magic and rural at the same time, as are the roots of the musicians that live on its boundaries.
