Do you wanna have fun? Are you looking for something or someone that will help you feel good? Well look no further because Muck Sticky is who you have been searching for. From the banks of the mighty Mississippi River comes this colorful character that embodies the definition of charisma. Quirky vocals, thought provoking lyrics, and a strangely fascinating blend of partying and inspiration, are the peanut butter and jelly of Muck Sticky.
Complete with an entourage of crazy characters, the Sticky Tribe includes the leader Muck Sticky, his mother Momma Sticky, his sister Cookie, and his good friend Wood.
Says Muck Sticky of his music, “It takes you to a time when the party is starting. Everyone is beginning to arrive, the atmosphere is filled with laughter and excitement, and folks are ready to shed the stress of the work week and have fun. It’s time to let loose and feel good!"
Muck Sticky comes from a long history of musicians. His great grandparents founded the very first Gospel Bluegrass Quartet in 1929 called The Wayfaring Strangers. His grandfather played studio piano for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Charlie Pride. Needless to say Muck grew up amongst music and musicians.
At the age of 10, Muck began playing classical violin and continued into his early teens. Muck was home-schooled from kindergarten through 8th grade where he took part in a speech and drama class, acting in many local productions. At 13, with an IQ score of 149, a member of MENSA, and an ACT score of 26, Muck entered a community college where he not only finished atop most of his classes, he was very popular amongst the 'pool lounge' crowd. They called him 'Doogie' because of his young age, but he fit right in.
At 15, Muck and a neighborhood friend began producing a sketch comedy show which aired on the cable access channel for two years. Muck entered The University of Memphis at the age of 18 to pursue a degree in Psychology. About three years into school, he was singing in a heavy metal cover band, but he wasn't happy. When one day, while sitting around picking acoustic guitar at his best friend Dr Roach Clip's house, he wrote a comedy song which would change his life, and the world, forever.
He knew that this was his life calling. To make people happy through music. So in the summer of 2001, he quit the metal band, left school, and began recording. He released several demo CD's like most artists, began playing shows at the legendary Memphis venue The New Daisy Theatre, and quickly developed a large regional following with his quirky tunes. During this time he met his friend Wood and to this day they continue to spread the good vibes together.
In 2003, he found himself being offered a position as Tour Merchandise Rep for his hometown brothers in the band Saliva. While spending the next three years touring with them, he continued to record his own music with a four-track that he brought on the road, setting up in hotel rooms and back lounge of the tour bus. This brought the albums 'The Nifty Mervous Thrifty' in 2004 and 'The Sticky Muck' in 2005. By then, Muck was becoming so busy balancing his career and working with Saliva, he chose to return to Memphis and follow his dream. Muck has unmeasurable gratitude to them and is still very close friends.
In 2006 came 'Muck Sticky Wants You', which, like the other two albums was self released. Then in 2007, while working on 'Bobolink Cove' with music producer Scott Bomar(Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan), he was introduced to the Phillips family at Select-O-Hits National Distribution, who now distribute all 5 Muck Sticky titles under Muck's own label Stay Lifted Records, including the recent 2008 release, 'Muck Sticky is my friend'.
After seven years of manufacturing fun with strong grass-roots support, over 6 million Myspace and Youtube plays, and five top selling albums, Sticky continues to break new ground using his innovative style of comedy-rappin’, bluegrass-hip-hoppin’, tickle-your-noggin’, feel-good music. You can see Muck and the tribe in the upcoming MTV New Media series "$5 Cover" created by Craig Brewer. Muck stars as himself in this show about Memphis musicians and all of the crazy things we do. Visit www.fivedollarcover.com or www.myspace.com/5dollarcover for more info. Muck is said to be a splendid mix of Beck, Cheech and Chong, South Park’s Mr. Hanky, Weird Al Yankovic, and a non-violent Eminem, creating a genre of his own. “I have a purpose! My purpose is to help you see the fun side of life and encourage you to find your purpose” he says. “You can choose to be anything you want to be. So we say you should be yourself!”
In a world filled with violence, Muck Sticky advocates that you can be cool without hurting anyone. In setting a new standard for pop culture music, he encourages young people to become a more positive, enlightened, generation without preaching to them. It's OK to be yourself, he says, to have fun and do crazy things and not wake up feeling guilty the next morning. Shed the guilt society throws at you and get on with your life mission, he says, even if it is simply promoting happy times. That's one reason people say, "It's not a band. It's a revolution!"
