sod it. here's what I listened to on my computer last week
Born in Brighton and raised in Germany and later Holland, I moved to Nottingham 7 or 8 years ago and started making music with friends I met there. Later I discovered that you can also make music with computers and cheap synthesisers, so I started doing that.
"How I Saved the World Single-Handed" is out now as part of Uncharted Audio's "Signals" 7" subscription series. Other contributions come from Abstrakt Knights, On/Off, Si Begg, Cursor Miner, King Cannibal, AGT Rave Cru, Beckett & Taylor, Neil Landstrumm, Dub Kult, Cyan341, Plaid, and LJ Kruzer.
"I am Number One" and "All Those Stars" are demos from my upcoming album, provisionally titled "Tech Hits".... summer 2008.
As well as doing this electronic music stuff I am or have been a member of the Nottingham bands: Escapologists, Savoy Grand, Seachange and Dearest.
If I were to be pretentious I would say that what I try to do is marry the aesthetics of techno and pop, but in a non-crass way.
Its a fucking saz not a bazouki! Although i beleive they are also called baglama outside of turkey....we were a little smash-faced so i'll let it go yeah?! Keep up the good work, you are as you say, number one!
dude - yep, a victim of tims attempt in photoshop to turn me into a 1950's b-moie serial killer. i think he did quite well. yep you guys should come down -would be well chuffed. tell ed that he'll have plenty of time to live in woking when he's retired.
Hello! Just being cheeky and dropping off some details about Supernight on Thursday!
EVERYONE is welcome to join us at The Social on the 15th for some fuzzy, folky fun.
This month we have for your listening pleasure…
SPACESHIPS ARE COOL Having played everywhere from Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas to a volcano in Iceland, Spaceships Are Cool are a great live act. Using guitars, glockenspiels, melodica and miniature drumkits they make music full of daydreams and doodles.
With influences ranging from The Beta Band to Barbarella, Forbidden Planet to The Flaming Lips, their sound is a wonderland of organic lo-fi fun. Check out their lush sweetshop symphonies on the 'I Can Count Music' compilation or at www.myspace.com/spaceshipsarecool2
MARK'S BROTHER A mysterious character with more aliases than Aphex Twin and Howard Marks combined, Mark's Brother has been steadily building his reputation as electronica's first crooner.
With nothing more than a drum machine, a mic and a natty moustache, he brilliantly brings together beat boxing, Gregorian chants and camp disco. Now that's got to be worth a look! www.myspace.com/marksbro
THE AVRAMS From loose jam sessions, bad cover versions and incredible band names such as The Mitten and Franklyn Superfine came The Avrams. As their name has evolved so has their music which now incorporates elements of The Mars Volta, The Coral and Romanian folk music to create their own brand of psychedelic indie pop.
PLUS! Joey Chickenskin and our resident DJs will be playing us some of their favourite tunes on the decks. All for £3 - MARVELLOUS
