Myopia began as the ambiguous dream of Mark Grey and Charles Woodruff. Forming in late 2003, the band began as a simple three piece group with a very undefined and humble sound. After several months of writing opening material, the two would recruit younger brother William Woodruff on the drums and Christopher Ferretti on bass. This first age lineup would go on to record their first EP "The Rising," under independent auspices. We sincerely hope no one still has a copy of this.
Michael Cavadini came on board in 2005 as the group's sorely needed keyboardist. By this point, Myopia had been moving in a far more epic direction than on its previous material, and Michael's classic piano education made him a worthy addition. Writing and touring would continue throughout that year, culminating with the release of the band's first, self-produced full-length, "The Straightway." Bassist Chris Ferretti would depart shortly after this release. The band emerged halfway through 2006 from the throes of uncertainty with Kyle Longley as the new bassist.
The group would then go on to create some of their most epic material to date, as the writing process as well as the sound of the group had finally cemented with this lineup. The creation of new songs continued throughout 2006, and when the lineup of scorching new material was finally complete, the ambitious project of recording NYGHT finally began.
The process was both slow and agonizing. With late nights spent in the studio, and amidst an unusually cruel and stormy winter, Myopia worked tirelessly in Horizon Studios of West Haven, CT, on their brainchild. The tracking and mixing completed in late April, and after all the mixing was finished, the album would make a journey around the world to Helsinki, Finland, to be mastered by Mika Jussila of Finnvox studios, perhas the most legendary studio in the epic metal genre.
After almost six months of waiting, the new Myopia album, NYGHT releases on August ninth. With searing new material recorded painstakingly by some of the masters, it will be like nothing you have heard before.
