Unless you've lived in a cave all your life, you've heard Nanette sing. She's the voice with Mick and the boys on the Rolling Stones hit "Honky Tonk Women" as well as several other songs on their "Let it Bleed" and "Tattoo You" albums. Nanette has also provided backing vocals for the likes of John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr to name but a few.
Raised in Jackson Mississippi, Nanette was born into show business; her mother was in the chorus of the New York Opera Company and her father was the trumpet player.
As a child, Nanette appeared weekly on the 'Mr.Magic Show' which eventually became "Junior Time," from this Nanette was given her own spin-off show entitled "Teen Tempos" which she hosted and sang on every week.
At 18, Nanette moved to New York City where she was understudy to the lead in the Summer Stock production of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Shortly thereafter, at the ripe old age of 19; Nanette moved to the French Canadian province of Quebec where she didn't understand a word - what would be daunting to most, was a challenge Nanette was up to, and it didn't take long for this Southern Belle to master the language, so much so that she recorded several chart topping French albums and is a veritable superstar in the province. Oh, and Nanette's version of "Lady Marmalade" is still a favourite to many.
Nanette modeled in London and Paris in the swinging '60s for iconic photographer David Bailey, appeared in Vogue, and was a regular on Dudley Moore and Peter Cook's popular British televsion show "Not Only...But" She toured with musicians like Peter Frampton and Mick Jones (Foreigner) as well as French superstar Johnny Hallyday, with whom she had a headline-generating relationship.
Nanette took Paris by storm when she was cast as the lead in Luc Plamondon's hit "Starmania," they would collaborate again on the Paris stage with "La Legende du Jimmy."
Multi-talented; she is also an accomplished actress. besides her performances in leading UK comedies, she has had several roles on television and film productions in Canada.
Nanette was, deservedly, inducted into the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame in 2000 and just recently the recipient of a Grammy achievement award in Tunica, Mississippi.
Returning to her musical roots, Nanette's last two cd's: "Roots N' Blues" and "Mississippi Rolling Stone" respectively, are a testament to her musical homecoming. She still lives in Quebec, (although she visits Jackson frequently,) and can often be seen tearing up the dirt roads on her Harley in the rural neighbourhood in which she lives
She's never been busier, but always tries to make time for a Texas Hold 'Em tournament. You can take the girl out of Mississippi, but you cannot take Mississippi out of the girl - well, not this girl anyways!
