We're a fabulous anime convention located in the eastern part of Virginia (Hampton Roads area.) Every November the Nekocon staff pull together many enriching and entertaining activities for fans by fans, and 2008 will be our 11th year... and fourth year at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
The people who work for Nekocon are a bunch of volunteers--we don't get paid to make sure you have a good time as the money you pay just rolls back into the convention itself in order to buy better equipment, finance cooler projects, and become the most awesome convention ever! The people who staff Nekocon put it together out of the goodness of their hearts and the loss of their sanity.
The staff itself consists of many different departments working together to handle all sorts of different aspects. A lot of the staff take their real life work experiences and apply them to the convention and others learn new abilities that help them get a real job. From the techies in Main Programming to the Peace-Bonding gurus of the AMS teams we're one giant family and we're always looking for more people!
In fact, if you're at least 16 years of age you should volunteer some and get a feel for what a convention is like behind the scenes. Many of us staff started out as attendees, then volunteers, then finally staff. One thing is for certain once you get a taste of the larger picture that goes on behind the scenes, it is hard to go back to being just an attendee.
