It’s a phrase that sticks in your head, and can make you feel safe, yet on-edge; melancholy, yet hopeful; something that this band is not afraid to embrace.
‘We like to think because we mix a few different genres of music, different people can identify with our songs in different ways,’ say the band. ‘We find that when writing a song it can go through so many different phases, but the one we eventually settle on is the one that sounds like us.’
The band formed in 2005, and after a couple of line up changes along the way, these five boys now find themselves playing when and wherever they can. In their relatively short time together, the band have clocked up an impressive 200+ shows, sharing the stage with some of today’s most talked about bands, including Enter Shikari, Exit Ten, and Mendeed to name a few. Fusing hardcore screams and melodic singing with syncopated riffs and hi-octane drumming, Never Means Maybe have made themselves stand out from the crowd, gaining a reputation for their chaotic live shows along the way.
‘It’s all about the live show. Whether there are 1000 people there, or 3, we’re gonna give it 100% every night, because when all is said and done that’s what we’re there for!’
It is this attitude mixed with an ever-growing, rabid fan-base that has seen the band’s reputation grow around the country.
2007 saw the band crowned Scuzz and Roadrunner Records’ Unsigned Band of the Year, and saw the boys reach the National Final of the Global Battle of the Bands. It later led them to some impressive support slots and high profile shows at the Barfly and Astoria II in London. More recently the band’s video for debut single Dressed to the Nines has been added to the Scuzz and Rockworld Playlist. And with the release of debut EP Celebrate with Cyanide Laced Champagne coming this autumn, things look bright for the band.
‘We just want to get out there and play. There’s nothing better than packing the van up and driving off to some random town and playing our music. We love it!’
