Newfangled Theory began in late 2006 as a two piece, with Derek Givans on Guitar and Vocals and Brantley Galloway on Drums. Brantley wanted a few lessons on drums from Derek, former drummer and vocalist for The Electric Fuzz Band (winner of the 3rd Annual Local Music Awards – Ninevolt Magazine, Norfolk, VA – for Jam Band of the Year 2002). Brantley already had some natural talent on drums and Derek’s interest in guitar grew after the split of The Electric Fuzz Band. Lessons became jam sessions that went on for a few months before the two piece performed for a small group of friends at a New Year’s Eve party.
Only a few short weeks later the band found their first bass player. The three piece performed at a party in March 2007 for a slightly larger group of friends and it was time for a band name. Newfangled Theory came about in an effort to describe exactly what was happening…lots of newfound talent and ideas!
May 2007 brought the band their first real paying gig at former Big City Grill in Freeport, FL. That gig connected them with their fourth member, Matthew Miller, who won the 2004 Florida State Fiddle Competition at age 13 and again in 2008. His talents on the Electric Fiddle bring an electic sound that gives Newfangled Theory a sound like no other.
March 2008 brought the second bass player to Newfangled Theory. Then Brantley introduced us to our third bass player in August 2007. June 2009 brought yet another bass player...THEN, Brian Smith came to see Newfangled Theory rock, and he decided to add to his resume, and he is now playing Bass!
Newfangled Theory has since created quite a buzz with locals playing a variety of sounds-southern funk reggae rock- and some rockin' originals. Newfangled Theory has had the privilege of playing great local places such as Shades at the Loop, Bud & Alley’s, Spinnaker Beach Club, JamBone, The Outpost, Ball's Out Sports Bar, Ms. Newby's, Seacrest Beach Amphitheatre, Shuckums, and Fatty’s Sandwich Shop. Also check us out at events such as Thunder Beach, Mossy Headz Fesitval, and Homegrown Music Concert Series.

come on now guys. i don't believe that humans are responsible for weather trends or cycles. nor do i believe that we can do anything to prevent the planet from warming or cooling for that matter. remember that "global warming" is a political issue more than an environmental crisis. but I will say hi and keep on rockin in the free world...
