"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.."
The words not only appear on a plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty leading into New York City, they describe the feeling of freedom that was found when the band New York Summer started anew.
Like the early immigrants who took the hard voyage across unknown waters to New York City to find a new life in America, the members of New York Summer have made a leap into the unknown, leaving behind comforts in search of something new.
Half the band, primary singer/songwriter Jared Taber and bassist Eddie Jones, have left behind the comfort of a band that has gained successes as both an independent and signed band. Their previous band could continue touring 100 plus dates a year for devoted fans all over the country. The band had radio success, sold over 30,000 records, and maintained a strong fan base for over 10 years.
As Jared puts it, "It was a hard decision to leave the comfort of a band that I started in high school and that had been such a big part of my life for ten years, but making that leap has lead us down some exciting new paths and toward an exciting new future. The best is yet to come and that is an exciting thing."
Adding to the excitement is the addition of guitarist Michael Blakemore and drummer Adam Chamberlain. Blakemore, a songwriter in his own right, has contributed greatly to the new project both musically and through his live performance. Blakemore had been touring with his own band when he met Taber and Jones, immediately the energy and creativity came together. It was decided it was a good time for the new members to make something new.
New York Summer is excited to see where this new world takes them. They are demoing songs for a new record and have plans to tour with national touring acts, the new band is also actively talking with labels and booking shows independently. Most importantly the band is working on reintroducing themselves to loyal fans and getting new fans excited about the new freedom they have found in New York Summer.
There is currently a search for two types of bands for record label consideration.
