NiM SOFYAN
is a word with many meanings:
In Anatolian music it is the term for 2/4 time.
In the Central European world music scene it is the name of an exceptional band as it can only evolve in the multicultural climate of the northernmost Balkan metropolis, Vienna.
The quintet manages to combine lyrical elegance and unforgiving drive and with this mixture hits the nerve of time. Electrifying music of the Balkans and Asia Minor, garnished with the most interesting elements of Mediterranean and Western European world music plus an occasional pinch of funk and jazz.
The first reddish brown wave of Balkanic brass bands has just rolled over Central Europe, while a new wave of luminous emerald colour emerges from the South East and Nim Sofyan rides on it's edge.
The stable centre of this band is guitarist and lead vocalist Alp Bora from Ankara with his seductive purple oriental-soul-voice, which has the power to tattoo the songs from Armenia to Greece and Macedonia into the listeners' hearts.
The overwhelming success of the quintet with critics and audiences proves that the time was ripe for Nim Sofyan's elegant melodious but still fervent music. In December 2004 at the renowned Viennese venue Porgy & Bess a jury of highly regarded music journalists and organisers assigned the Austrian World Music Award to Nim Sofyan. Independently, the audience present also voted for Nim Sofyan to be given the audience award.
Since then they are a much sought after live act and with their impressive performances untiringly tear down the artificial borders between orient and occident.

Stabiles Zentrum der Band ist Gitarrist und Leadsänger Alp Bora aus Ankara mit seiner verführerisch purpurnen Oriental-Soul-Stimme,
die Lieder von Armenien bis Mazedonien in die Seelen der Zuhörer zu tätowieren weiß.
Wie reif die Zeit für die aparte melodiöse und dennoch feurige Musik von Nim Sofyan ist, beweist der überwältigende Erfolg des Quintetts bei Kritikern und Publikum.
Dezember 2004 sprach eine Jury aus namhaften Fachjournalisten und Veranstaltern im renommierten Porgy & Bess Nim Sofyan den World Music Award zu, unabhängig davon beehrte sie die anwesende Zuhörerschaft auch mit dem Publikumspreis!
Seitdem sind sie ein viel gesuchter, viel gebuchter Live-Act und werden nicht müde, mit ihren eindringlichen Darbietungen die künstlichen Grenzen zwischen Orient und Okzident vergessen zu lassen.
