Sounds Like
"...their melodies chime like a lullaby for the indie rock set... perfect music for those who like blissed-out pop, sad-style folk, and just downright beautiful music."
"...a blend of spacey textures and raw, country-tinged songwriting... a lovely meeting between the New Year's Newness Ends and Pleasant Grove's Auscultation of the Heart."
Oceanographer is the current incarnation of Jeremy Yocum and Eric Elterman's fifteen-year collaboration. By 2002 the two had found enough musicians to build a solid five-member line-up. Based in Denton, Texas, this line-up produced two releases: 2003's Twenty String and 2005's On Leaping from Airplanes. The whole band had relocated to Brooklyn by the end of 2004, where they continued working and performing live. By 2006 Oceanographer had, for all intents and purposes, dissolved.
After dabbling with other projects and ideas, Yocum and Elterman decided to return to Oceanographer with original bassist Ryan Goolsby. Guitarist Kevin Plessner (of Monuments, Suzan Hurtuk, Missives) and drummer Ian Peksa (of The Autumn Leaves, Silver Tongue Diary, Jaane) replaced (respectively) Stephen Kimbrell and Bradly Brown, and the quintet will make their first appearance as a re-formed Oceanographer on October 11th at Manhattan venue National Underground. The group hopes to have a new recording ready for release sometime in 2009.
