Sept. 23 09 willamette week says:
[LEFTOVER JAM] Archers
is the full-band permutation of Michael Cantino’s solo project, Orange
Jam, and in this instance the boost in membership has been a boon to
the Portland songwriter. Cantino’s solo material consisted mostly of
his extraordinarily distorted guitar cozying up to twisted doo-wop
melodies and congealing to form something resembling the Crocodiles
inside a blender. In an imminently logical turn of events, Archers has taken Cantino’s retro buzz-sawing and transformed it to the deafening clatter it always wanted to be. SHANE DANAHER.
Self-titled EP available may 5 on beat nun recordings. these are the tracks. I now have a full band, Archers. Add us myspace.com/archerspdx the bulk of my new material will be done with them.

TUESDAY 8/11/09: MARK TWAIN INDIANS, THE VALLEY ARENA, OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
“[SMART ROCK] Don’t let the riffage scare you. The Valley Arena’s new disc, We Died, finds the SoCal crew engaging in hard rock as smart as it is heavy: Tricky post-hardcore guitar licks are there to buoy cleverly jingoistic turns of phrase. Fans of bass-heavy ‘90s indie rock like Jawbox and Seaweed ought to dig the group’s smartly aggressive aesthetic, which grows in spurts with each release. And you thought nobody was making worthwhile rock ’n’ roll anymore. Psshh.” - CASEY JARMAN, The Willamette Week
