1968. The height of the Vietnam War. Two young men from opposite ends of the earth must drag themselves through Hell merely for the opportunity to kill one another.
Written by rookie sensation Jason Aaron with astoundingly visceral art by Cameron Stewart (SEAGUY, SEVEN SOLDIERS: GUARDIAN), THE OTHER SIDE is a 5-issue miniseries following Bill Everette, a 19-year-old Alabama farm boy drafted into the Marine Corps whose only goal is to come home alive, and Vo Binh Dai, a 19-year-old Vietnamese farm boy who enlists in the People's Army of Vietnam, terrified only of failing in his duty to die bravely for his country.
Along the way, Private Everette encounters demonically vicious Parris Island drill instructors, talking maggots, voiceless ghosts, jaded grunts, man-eating pigs, maniacal rats, leeches that quote William Blake, a rifle that begs him to shoot himself and occasionally even the enemy. Vo Dai must undertake the long march south down the Strategic Trail, through black forests and bloody swamps, over pockmarked earth and fields of fire, past tigers and dragons and mounds of the dead, past exhaustion, beyond endurance.
At turns wholly fantastic yet always heartbreakingly realistic, THE OTHER SIDE is an epic tragedy about America's most haunting war. A surreal exploration of the Vietnam war from opposing viewpoints. A horror story about the horrors of war.

"Not since Eric Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front has a novel--graphic or otherwise--been as powerful, stirring, unsettling, and thought-provoking... THE OTHER SIDE is nothing short of a true classic."
--Library Journal
"A stark, unfettered account of the horrors of war..." --Publishers Weekly
"A stunner of a comic. In fact, few war stories in any medium blend such horror with such a poetic humanization of the enemy."
--Playboy.com
"Because the characters and their manias brought on by the war's atrocities are so compelling, the only bad part about THE OTHER SIDE is that it has to end." --Washington Post
"Buy it!"
--G4's Attack of the Show
"A Must Have."
--IGN
"With the war in Iraq escalating and the specter of other wars looming on the horizon, we may be seeing more war comics—and war movies and war books, not to mention actual war footage—than we’d care for. If we’re lucky, a scant few might be as good as THE OTHER SIDE."
--The Wire
"First issues don't get much more gripping than the debut of the five-part mini THE OTHER SIDE... Writer Jason Aaron, a newcomer, has a gift for profanity and violent extremes—both physical and psychological—and Cameron Stewart's clean, expressive art has a terrifying war-is-hell immediacy... A-"
--The Onion
"... headed to a confrontation that promises to defy the genre and deliver a story that’s more than just another war tale. A-"
--Variety
"This book isn't trying to be important, it just is. One of the very best comics Vertigo has published since PREACHER. Highest possible recommendation."
--Brian K. Vaughan, writer of PRIDE OF BAGHDAD
"I've said it before but I'll say it again: This is a fucking outstanding book... This gets my Highest Personal Recommendation." --Brian Wood, writer of DMZ and DEMO
