Check out this video performed by Dr. Oakroot. He has an unorthodox Uke style that I think you will find enjoyable. Doc is playing a Uke built from a Papa’s kit that exemplifies the expression of individuality possible with a home built kit.
On his website Dr. O said "this kit is highly recommended if you'd like to get into building your own instruments".
Papa's Boxes is a little company based in Syracuse, NY, creating easy to assemble stringed instrument kits using a cigar box. We supply all you need, with the exception of some hand tools, sand paper, and finish. We encourage you to find your own cigar box. The hunt for one can be fun and you never know what type of box will turn up at an antique store or in grandpa's basement. Papa's boxes supplies cigar boxes, too, if needed.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
