Performance Poet? Page enacter? Sound creator? Letter sculptor? Space arranger? The translation between the words, the writing, the bringing in of sound, the movement, the MEANING. That is rad.
I also perform in Maiden Speech, a Poetry-Pop act, with my sister Almaryse, and WE perform with our SiSTER Ghostboy at ouTsideRs Brisbane, a club night that is a platform for musicians, poets, performance artists and everything in between. Get in touch with us to take part.
It wouldn't be uncommon for you to find me doing spoken word in plenty of dives around town. I sometimes perform with Ohad Rein aka Old Man River and this year my first publication, a chapbook of poetry called A Vast Laugh, with illustration and collaboration by the outstanding artist Joshua Norman, has just been released through Small Change Press. Make sure you get a copy.
There are accolades - I won the Slams at the Queensland Poetry Festival and Woodford Folk Festival - and that is what is known as 'good'. What I dig is that it means I get to do MORE poetry.

My Poetry involves layers of sonic art. I like to record REAL sounds, I get a buzz from knowing I was there when it happened - so in the tracks you hear above, it was me LIGHTING the matches, TYPING the poem, PRINTING the page, making the PRICE CHECK. The rest is usually loops or samples I find and mix into my own recipe of sound.
Ant Aggs has helped me with recording some of the tracks - it's a swell process of going with the FLOW and seeing what we come up with.
I love the connection between music and poetry and experimenting with this fusion. Theatre, words, visual art, words, film, music, words, humour and honesty. Hot damn.
There are too many good things out there that inevitably turn up in my work - I see in my old age I will be the eccentric blue-rinsed pipe-smoking lady, carrying around an ipod and a microphone - I can't wait.
