Suzanne Paschall (vocals);
Tommy Dahl (keyboards, vocals);
Cody Kurz (upright bass);
Garnet Speer (clarinet/saxophone);
Don Tatchell (percussion).
Influences
Tom's piano (boogie woogie, honky tonk and jazz) style has been heavily influenced by the three kings of boogie piano - Mead Lux Lewis, and the other two guys...:) He also has been heavily influenced by Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson.
Suzanne's singing comes from deep inside, and influences include Alberta Hunter's storytelling genius, sense of humor and showmanship, Etta James for the essence of the blues, and Ella Fitzgerald for her rhythmic perfection.
Sounds Like
People have described Suzanne as a cross between Diana Krall and Bette Midler. Can you imagine? Tommy has the hands of an angel and the voice of a devil. His vocals reminds people of a seriously soulful and highly rhythmic Tom Waits, or any one of a bunch of old blues men. Not that HE'S old...:)
Tommy and Suzanne are performing songwriters. They both shoulda lived and performed in the '40s, because they love the schwingggg. It's all about rhythm and they do it up. They can do covers, and do, but their originals sound like their classics from the 40s, with contemporary lyrics. They're winning awards, making fans and influencing people...Suzanne's vocals are warm and sweet or rough - depends on the story she's telling. Tommy's piano is a sweating, pounding boogie woogie when it has to be, and a sweet ballad when it has to be. The man can do it all. They both feel it from their guts, and give it all...every time.
Paschall & Dahl - You stole the show at the Songwriters Circle, I sure wish I would of had the chance to say hello... perhaps next time .. GO FAT DADDY GO! <--- loved it!

Hi Suzanne :) Just wanted to say the CD sounds great. It was really nice to have been able to meet you and connect in Saskatoon - what a great vibe at the Bassment. You Saskatonians do it right... hope the jazz scene is still as hot as it was that weekend!
