It all started with Mark Knopfler and then quickly spread to... Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Greg Howe, Jennifer Batten, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Dream Theater, Spock's Beard, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Franz Lizst, Gyorgy (aka Georges) Cziffra, Bumblefoot, Guthrie Govan, Claude Debussy, Nicolo Paganini, Edvard Grieg, Frédéric Chopin, Jeff Beck, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Transatlantic...
Sounds Like
Well, with Carl's band, I guess the idea is that I should sound like Keith Emerson... not sure if I do though!
I currently play in The Carl Palmer Band (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer) and with Neal Morse's band. When I'm not doing that, I teach at BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music).
The Carl Palmer Band did a long ol' tour of the U.S. in the summer of '06 - I kept a blog of every single day of it here. So, if you're at all interested in the day to day activities of the band then please feel free to check it out.
At the moment most of my energy is being put into writing a book. For the best part of 3 years I wrote the rock column in Guitarist magazine, the book is an expansion of all those columns (with a few bonuses thrown in for good measure). The book will be available in early 2008.
If you're interested in receiving more information and updates about the book, please send me a message with your e-mail address and I'll put you on my mailing list.
Man its an honor having you as a friend. I just bought the Sola Scriptura and Beyond DVD and was blown away with your performance! Hope to see and hear more of your work!
I see.. And sure, you were here for business! I hope you'll come again and have time to see something, Moscow is a beautiful city! (I of course mean the center of it, mainly:) Waiting for your diary!!
Hello Paul, thanks for accepting my request. Your guitar work is absolutely off the top! You are working with two of my favorite musicians: Carl Palmer and Neal Morse. Thanks for carrying the torch for prog.
I just wanted to say that you're very inspiring for anyone who loves guitar music, Paul. I'm sorry I won't get to see you during this tour...but I'm sure you'll do great! x, Irina
