   About Perhaps Contraption
We are fluxus-fuelled-avant-rock-pronk-pop-performance-offal. (F.F.A.R.P.P.P.O)

An ever-evolving collective gargling a love of the spontaneous & technical, humourous & desperate, soothing & challenging.

"seriously hard-boiled, tetrahedron-shaped, bendy pronk" - ORGAN

In the ilk of Zappa, Beefheart, Henry Cow & other progressive iconoclasts before, Perhaps Contraption rock in opposition & bear this flame atop a mechanical, juddering horse. Fluxus inspired antics & participation is encouraged, as absurd ideas & things move amongst the crowd & engulf the performance. Narratives sew compositions together, themes & improvisation pervade set-lists.

Song themes stretch from the diuretic effects of hot drinks, to the global abuse of our ecological and mental space, to the translucent torso of a crumpled pensioner in London, and swans guzzling cuboids (and some-things inbetween).

We are Based in London and we are frothing + eager to perform with all other musical / theatrical / artistic oddities; for updates of shows and projects - join our club - Send a message to

here is a video for BLUEBELLS, our first Single, soon to be released in a limited hand-crafted batch.
Below is a teaser video from our forthcoming album "sludge and tripe"...

Why thank you, Mr Contraption!

Had a listen to your stuff! I especially like "Tetrahedron" - Like a beautiful melange of Remain-in-the-Light-era Talking Heads, with a bit of Cardiacs....and a bit of Rage....no....it's like Hendrix mixed with Captain Beefheart....no...Mr Bungl...no...no...forget all that! I'd have to say it's just pretty damn original! Very cool!

Keep up the good work, maybe we'll catch you at one of your show in London if everything aligned right.

Cheers,

The Incisors

OUT NOW

The Hunter Gracchus Companions of the Porch CD-R

We've never been able to quite pin down exactly what it is that The Hunter Gracchus do, which is a wonderful thing. A shifting unit with Syed Kamran Ali, Fiona Marshall and Jon Marshall at the core, they have recently settled into a fairly stable unit of six, but it's hard to know how long that'll last. Still, while it does, it's producing all manner of magical and highly unexpected performances. The one captured here was recorded at the band's practice room cum gig space, Fagin's Hideout/The Furniture Makers and is a less blistering freakout than some of their recent output, preferring to quietly explore every nook of tonal space. It simmers rather than erupts and, the longer you become immersed in it, the less aware you become of the passage of time. It's a recording that feels like it should go on forever and, when it does come to a close, the silence is shocking. In a time when it's all too easy for a group of improvisers to just go full-tilt in some euphoric pursuit, the Hunter Gracchus provides us with a glowing alternative that draws us slowly in and drowns our senses. This is truly awesome.

Ltd to 80 copies

OUT NOW

Peeesseye I Woke Up and Drank a Bottle of Cheap Kojak CDR

Peeesseye made the scene at Dylan Nyoukis's Colour Out of Space festival last summer and hopped over to Manchester to play a show at the Town Hall Tavern, the recording of which forms the content of this incredible slab of dense droning harmonium, scraping, buzzing, subtly soloing guitar and pulse-free, scatter-drumming. We can't recommend this enough.
Limited to 80 copies.
