WILLIAM PERRY WORTMAN IV, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and began playing double bass at the age of 13. Throughout middle and high school, he received numerous awards for excellence in jazz and classical music. While residing in the Oklahoma City area, Perry had the opportunity to play with many of the great musicians who passed through this region including Jon Faddis, Wynton Marsalis, Byron Stripling, Dave Pietro, Randy Johnston, Mark Elf, and Anne Hampton Calloway. Perry also worked on a regular basis with New York based guitarist Freddie Bryant while in the OKC area. After receiving encouragement from Freddie, Perry made the decision to move to New York in 2002. Since moving to New York he has travelled throughout the US, Caribbean, and Europe with such groups as Pete Robbins and Centric, Ryan Blotnick's Secret Mainstream, and The Paislies, a collective group of improvisors/composers of which Perry is an active member. As a recent graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and an active freelancer, Perry continues to search for new musical realms of expression within the context of improvisation.
I'm gonna be a guest on 2plyradio's Under The Radar program this wednesday evening. From 9-10 (West Coast time) we'll be focusing on local SD area bands and some discussion, including a handful of songs off the upcoming Chaz album making their first appearances! 10-11 will be just cool music that SHOULD be on the radio. There's a chat room too, so feel to ask questions or share your opinions! XOXOXO -Aaron

I went to the International School of Geneva, east of downtown. I lived out in the suburbs in Verier and Thonex, so you probably wouldn't make it that far out without reason. I lived near the foot of the Saleve, the squarish mountain south of town with the quarry hole dug into its face. what are you doing in Geneva?
With a soft voice gone unheard You spoke to me of a world without history And in that simple dream, technology died And in the still darkness, no sigh was uttered The tower fell softly like a bird shooting down from a high branch to a feeder, the trail its wingtips left behind whispering, "escape!"
Always coming, always going; Never here but never gone. Sit and await it’s burning tears And fall ever in its churning throng. Yearn for it to quell your fears And find yourself in curious wrong. Brace yourself against its gears And lay in wait all night long. Wait for it through lonely years To strike, and hear its feeble gong. Those who feel it, those who hear Forever sing it’s beautiful song.
