Although Peter's children's career began with a 6 year stint presenting Music Time for BBC Television in London in 1977, it really kicked off with the hugely successful Toffee Apple Album and Video Clip in 1987-Toffee Apple was the first ever full length video clip made for kids and Peter became Australia's first children's 'popstar'
750,000 album & video sales later, performing, writing and recording new music for children remains a labour of love and his total commitment to the writing of quality music remains undiminished. He has also 'officially''added adults to his audience (many adults have enjoyed the rich tapestry of his children's music almost as much as their children) with the recent release of his first adult album in 20 years-
"SONGS FROM A TELEPHONE BOX"
Although the modern trend in children's live performances is to use adults dressed in animal suits, Peter has always preferred working with children as is obvious from his many Videos, Cds and Concerts where there may be Singers,Dancers and Actors or maybe a combination of all three. His approach to writing children's music is also unique in that like good children's literature, he aims to extend, surprise and inspire the audience- and always be 'adult friendly' eg Two of his songs( Mr Spook & Jacaranda Tree) feature the Austalian String Quartet- the finest in the country.
His music is timeless and many of his earlier works such as Spaghetti Bolognaise, Newspaper Mama, Wash Your Face in Orange Juice (Mr Clicketty Cane) Chopsticks, Happy Christmas to You, Mr Spook & Little Groover are as popular at the beginning of the 21st century as they were in the latter part of the 20th!
He currently has available 11 Cds & 6 Videos for children plus his new adult album, all of which are available through his website. There is also a delightful new Peter Combe Triple Pack, "The Peter Combe Collection" -50 Fun Sing-a-long Songs.
Peter is also known for his Monty Pythonish, goonish sense of humour, heard in such songs as Tadpole Blues, Down in the Bathroom, First Reader, Elizabeth, This Little Pig and Stuck in a Pizza.
With 3 ARIAS for Best Children's Album, (more than any other artist in his field) 7 Gold & 2 Platinum Albums to his credit, his reputation in Australian households is assured.
