   About Phoenix and the Turtle

PHOENIX AND THE TURTLE is known for taking its listeners on a musical journey. The fusion of instrumental rock and classical strings, while incorporating sparse vocals, lends to the uniqueness of this southern California quartet’s sound. Phoenix and the Turtle formed in 2003 as a collaboration for a friend’s funeral.

The 2004 release of their first album, “Sundays are a Good Day for Relaxing,” helped complement their astonishing live performances. After expanding to a greater audience, Phoenix and the Turtle released their second full-length, “Asleep in America.”

“The band delicately weaves an intricate aural web of haunting melody and ambiance reminiscent of Black Heart Procession at times, but Phoenix and the Turtle serve it up on an epic scale.” IE Weekly

“Phoenix and the Turtle blended politics with sheer musical beauty, creating a powerful message without seeming preachy or arrogant.”UCR Highlander

"I am officially smitten over Phoenix And The Turtle. I highly recommend this fantastic Cali quartet if you like bands like Ra Ra Riot or Arcade Fire or any other band that makes great use of those stringy paddle things." - 5 Acts

"This California band will be right up your alley if you love Blonde Redhead, Black Heart Procession, The Album Leaf and even Sonic Youth." - My Old Kentucky Blog

"The overall effect is sweet, lush, and delicate." - Speed of Dark

"Asleep in America, the second full-length release from Yucaipa's Phoenix and the Turtle, is a somber journey through perfectly aligned trees, gaping wounds and haunted gardens." - The Rockit

"I think there is something amazing in this music that I think really puts this band beyond some of the other indie artists with a similar atmospheric style." - The Soul of Rock and Roll

I appreciate the comment--Phoenix and the Turtle fan for life. I am looking forward to the new music. I am anxious to hear Cahn break out into a 15 minute angry rap soliloquy, laced with profanity in the new CD... maybe=P Good luck with the music.

I just graduated and coming across your band during a public performance is one of the most noteworthy thing to happen to me during those... 6 ½ years (double major). There are some things that happen in college that will forever impact you: Phoenix and the Turtles was one of them.

And you took what they said to heart! lolll
your music is eclectic; you need to be doing shows in New York and London. Most definitely. Then you WOULD be on the cover of Rolling Stone and not to mention in several national newspapers here in the UK. They love your sort of stuff. Let me know when you're moving!
