Some Background
Pig’n’aif is a music project working in conjunction with the
Rising Records independent record label based in Sheffield (UK).
The band name is pronounced in a typical Yorkshire accent as Pig’an’Ayf.
(Please feel free to use it as a surreptitious curse - we do...)
Pig’n’aif has been the working name for a collection of projects and bands, put together and performed with, by Pete Bangert over the years.
The name was originally born out of frustration and reflects the fact that it has often been a pig (and an ’aif) to bring these projects to fruition, or indeed to get the musicians together to play the material, but it also reflects a lighter side to things.
The most recent live version of the band includes:
bassist Chris Price
vocalist John Wilson
and drummer Gordon Henderson
It's a first time out with Pete for Chris and John, but renews previous collaborations with Gordon from the successful reincarnation of the NWOBHM rock band Phoenix Rising back in the 90's and more recently the Progressive Rock band ChinWig.
The result of this collaboration of musicians is a gigging, four-piece band, performing tracks from the album 'Pig'n'aif Blue' This album includes their own treatments of some classic rock and blues standards. The band is performing using basic stage gear with the emphasis on having fun and jamming on stage. This is something that Pete, John, Chris and Gordon are very keen to keep going and is worth the effort (if they can keep their aging arses in gear).
'Pig'n'aif Blue' resulted from a very productive period in the studio when Pete worked with vocalist Mel Day. Pete and Mel had also worked together in the reincarnated Phoenix Rising back in the early to mid ninties. The album includes the work of local drummer Graham Shaw
The album 'The Jester... Thinks...' followed on from a very successful initial collaboration between Pete and front-man bassist Mick Shedd in the ChinWig' project.
Pete and Mick decided to get to work in the studio to produce a studio album of original prog-rock material for release. The album 'The Jester... Thinks...' is based on masters from Pete’s last solo album, re-worked and with Mick’s vocals added. It also contains new material previously unreleased. There are clips from the album on the player on this site. Alternatively you could rush off and buy it now using our link above.
Pete and Mick are continuing to pursue their musical writing and recording partnership in parallel to working on their other project areas.
