The Sheffield based Rising Records label was formed as an independent label in 1980, registered with the Independent Label Association.
The original purpose was to service the recording and production needs associated with the label owners band Phoenix Rising. This was subsequently broadened in scope to include the projects of colleagues and friends.
Over the years we have helped and advised quite a number of people to record, produce and develop their products, some of them moving on to do very exciting things.
NOW, BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER,
get your free copy of our latest joke book;
'The Almost Definitive Musos Jokebook' follow this link www.rising-records.com and go to the MEDIA page and download it.
You might want to have a wander around the site at the same time. Please feel free to pass this info on to your mates so they can download one for themselves.
Now where were we? Oh yes ...
Have you seen the latest Pig'n'aif video of the song 'The Jester'? Try this for a smirk...
Rising Records remains a small independent label, with Digital and Mobile recording, mix-down production facilities and short-run mastering capability. The label is primarily a vehicle for the owner, his colleagues and friends., It continues to produce original and bespoke music commercially including background music for film/video, commercial presentations and multimedia.
However, due to the size and background of the label, it is naturally geared towards servicing local group needs and projects. The label can and will provide help in other ways too. We know a number of session musicians (live and studio), Mastering Facilities, PA hire companies, MIDI specialists, luthiers and so on. We would also be pleased to add any local or useful links and contacts you may recommend to us. (But please obtain the OK of the contact to be added first).
Our Reasons For Continuing
We survive to service the needs of the owner. The emphasis of the label owner is largely on song writing and performing when possible. However, the label is also here to pass on the benefits of a reasonable experience to friends, colleagues and local bands wherever possible. E-mail us if you think we can help.
You never know your luck.
Some of the people working with us
Alan is an experienced sound engineer in both live and studio situations. He is also a guitarist.
He has a large experience of sound production in live venues and is a very capable road manager. Alan acted as sound engineer for Phoenix Rising in all of their live performances and headed up a Road Crew of up to 10 staff and roadies (he still has his big boots in the cupboard). He has also managed and run a PA Hire facility on behalf of the label.
Gordon is one of the better drummers in the Sheffield area. He plays with style and panache, and although moving towards becoming long in the tooth (arent we all?) he performs with amazing energy. He will tell you this is due to his godlike physique and immense fitness, not to mention personal charisma and a passing attention to hygiene.
His main styles are R&B, Heavy Rock and Jazz Rock Fusion, but he can turn his hand to most things with sensitivity.
Gordon is currently working with the
ChinWig
project (see below), but is available for session work where there are no time conflicts.
In this typical picture of him above, you can that he has just become fascinated by another noise source, the fact that it has shiny bits is pure bonus of course.
Pete started out in the music business as a rock and blues guitarist. He uses a guitar synth in live gigs to add to the sound capabilities of his favourite V. He has a long experience as both a live and session musician.
Pete is now also a producer and recording engineer with experience of analogue and digital recording and good working knowledge of most recording software and MIDI applications.
He manages the activities of the record label.
He is never happier than when he is playing music live although that is not as often as he would like nowadays.
Pete has just released the album
'The Jester... thinks...'
under the band name of
Pig'n'aif
on
Rising Records
. There is a quick taster above...
He is currently working on a new band project called
'ChinWig'
with some old friends;
the fashionably late Gordon Henderson,
the thunderously adept Aidan Hall,
the young and thrusting Krys Bangert and not least
the slightly creaking Alan Bangert (on ear trumpet).
The still twinkling Mick Shedd is also involved in the writing side of the band.
The guys are now developing material for the next album and intending to gig the new material along with recent
Pig'n'aif
material and some old
Phoenix Rising
songs in the
ChinWig
stage set. Get in touch if you are interested.
