Pneuma was born in 2003, with four guys with a taste for thrash metal, death metal and experimental rock. In the first couple of years Pneuma earned a good reputation in the metal and in the progressive scene, recording in 2003 their first EP "A run Through...", with a progressive metal approach. In 2005 along with Decembers Cold Winter, Pneuma went on a tour that included many dates in the outer regions of Costa Rica and Central America called "The Awakening tour" which made a big impact in the metal scene of the area and also captured the attention of the local media.

In 2006 Pneuma was voted by the users of one of the most popular rock webpages in the country “La escapatoria”, best band of the year proving that the more agressive direction the band took, in a thrash metal, metalcore vein with a progressive edge was making an impact in the scene. In that same poll, the band took home best local concert of the year for their "Awakening Tour" efforts.

The band continue playing in 2007, becoming very well known in the underground metal scene, in 2008 after one failed record company contract, the band decided to play gigs for earning money to record their album. In 2009 they began recording their first professional album Anomaly in Costa Rica, which is being mix and mastered in California at the Sonic Response Studios. On March 7 2010, Pneuma was chosen as opening act for the Metallica, Mastodon Concert in Costa Rica, the band had an standing ovation by the more than 30 thousand people that assisted the concert. The band's video for Dethroned (first single of the album) was released also on March 2010, this video has had a lot of tv airplay and thousands of views on the web. On July 2010, Pneuma released "Anomaly" their first professional record, an album expected by thousands of fans, and having great reviews so far... Pneuma is preparing an international tour that may take them overseas. In 2010-2011 the band is looking for a shot at the international market and Major Labels.
