Dopo 13 anni di silenzio ritornano i Prowlers, una delle band più interessanti del neo progressive italiano degli anni novanta. "Sogni in una goccia di Cristallo", continua il discorso musicale iniziato col capolavoro della band, quel "Sweet Metamorfosi" che è stato uno degli album fondamentali del progressive anni novanta di casa nostra. L' organo hammond, il pianoforte, il mellotron, il moog e l'arsenale di tastiere analogiche di Alfio Costa, le percussioni di Giovanni Vezzoli, i virtuosismi bassistici di Roberto Aiolfi e le chitarre di Flavio Costa e Stefano Piazzi, ridanno vita ad un album ricco di colori, sfumature e immagini sonore che fanno da cornice ancora una volta alla splendida voce di Laura Mombrini. Una delle punte di diamante della scuderia Mellow ritorna più in forma che mai con un album che si annuncia tra le più importanti uscite del 2011 !!!! ____________________________________________________________________________ Prowlers was an Italian prog rock band… this is a short story of our band and our music… thirteen magic year.... In 1985 Laura Mombrini (vocals), Gianni Radici (Guitars) and Roberto Biglioli (drums) met Fabio Dehò (bass) and Alfio Costa (Keyboards) and took the decision to play Great Music !….. Strange Music!…. with passion and fun! Prowlers were born! In the beginning the band was influenced by blues-rock, hard rock and the early Pink Floyd (Syd Barret era). In 1989, after many live concerts in northern Italy, Prowlers were well known and record their first demo with new drummer Giovanni “Giana” Vezzoli. After some years, with the new band members Stefano Piazzi (guitars) and Marco Premoli (bass) the band records, with an old Fostex eight tracks recorder, a demo tape called “Morgana”. This was their first progressive and psychedelic work (just a demo tape….), but it will be released by the Italian label Mellow Records in 1994 as the first Prowlers’ album. “Morgana” had a great success in the “new-progressive world” (but the quality of the recording isn’t too good…) and sold out. In 1994 Flavio Costa (Alfio’s younger brother) joined the band and with two guitarists, Prowlers recorded “Mother and Fairy” a double studio album, mixed by Ciro Perrino (Il Sistema, Celeste etc.), a great Italian musician. This second album was more “progressive” than “Morgana”, with some long tracks full of keyboards and guitars duels, and Laura’s voice, so beautiful that many people called her the “Italian Annie Haslam”. Unfortunately, it being a double album, its price was too high, so it didn’t have a great success. So Stefano Piazzi and Marco Premoli left the band. In 1995 Alan Ghirardelli, a young bass player and a friend of Flavio’s, joined Prowlers. Alfio started to write a colossal rock suite about the story of the band. He was influenced by the Italian seventies progressive and especially by The Trip, Osanna, Goblin, Balletto di Bronzo and PFM. In 1995 Mellow records started to produce some tribute records to some great progressive names: Gentle Giant, VDGG, Camel …. Prowlers play and record “First Light” for the Camel tribute and “Ultima ora / Ode a Jimi Hendrix” (by the Trip), for the “Zarathustra’s Revenge, the Italian seventies progressive tribute”. In 1996 Prowlers play live in some important Italian prog Festivals (Vigevano Prog Fest, Trento Greem Pop Fest etc.). In 1997, after three years and many hard work, the band enters Sonica Studios in Rovereto with the great engineer and musician Marco Olivotto, to record “Sweet Metamorfosi”… absolutely the best work by the band. This is the more progressive album of the band: a sixty minutes rock suite with many time and mood changes. Laura Mombrini’s voice (sometimes in English and sometimes in Italian) was as good as it’s ever been, Alfio’s and Flavio’s musical “feeling” was fantastic while Giana and Alan were the “rhythm monsters” of this great album. “Sweet Metamorfosi” had a great success and today it is sold out…. It can still be found in some U.S. web-shops and maybe… sometimes on Ebay … But all the Prowlers’ records are real rarities. In 1998 Alan Ghirardelli left the band and Roberto “Bobo” Aiolfi became the new bass player. Prowlers record “The Sage” for the ELP tribute and start the “Sweet Metamorfosi tour”, but after some concerts, Laura Mombrini and Giana Vezzoli left the band and Prowlers split up. ….. then, after some months, Alfio, Flavio and Bobo started a new musical adventure … TILION…. But this is another story… ________________________________________________________________________________ Prowlers era una prog band italiana….questa è una breve storia della nostra band… tredici magici anni…. Nel 1985 Laura Mombrini (voce), Gianni Radici (chitarra) e Roberto Biglioli (percussioni) incontrano Fabio Dehò (basso) e Alfio Costa (tastiere) e prendono la decisione di iniziare a fare Musica Personale, Importante… Musica Strana… tutto con passione e divertimento! Erano nati i Prowlers! All’inizio la band era influenzata dal blues-rock, hard rock e dai primi Pink Floyd (quelli dell’era Syd Barret). Nel 1989, dopo molti concerti nel nord Italia, i Prowlers erano molto conosciuti nell'ambiente musicale della zona, così registrarono il loro primo demo col nuovo batterista Giovanni Vezzoli. Dopo qualche anno, con i nuovi entrati Stefano Piazzi (chitarre) e Marco Premoli (basso), la band registra, con un vecchio e malandato registratore “ottotracce” della Fostex, un demo-tape intitolato “Morgana”. Ne stampano 300 copie sottoforma di musicassetta e nel giro di poco vengono tutte vendute. Questo fu il loro primo lavoro progressivo e psichedelico (in realtà solo un demo tape), che venne pubblicato dall’etichetta italiana Mellow Records nel 1994 come primo album ufficiale dei Prowlers. “Morgana” ebbe un grosso successo nel “mondo new prog” e vennero vendute tutte le copie realizzate (anche se la qualità della registrazione non era troppo buona…). Nel 1994 Flavio Costa (il giovane fratello di Alfio) entra nella band e con due chitarristi Prowlers registrano “Mother and Fairy” un album doppio interamente registrato in studio, mixato da Ciro Perrino (Il Sistema, Celeste etc.) un grande musicista italiano e dell’ambiente progressivo. Questo secondo album era decisamente più “Progressive” di “Morgana”, contenendo lunghi brani ricchi di duelli di tastiere e chitarre e con la voce di Laura talmente bella da essere considerata da molti la “Annie Haslam italiana”. Sfortunatamente il fatto che fosse un album doppio e quindi con un prezzo decisamente alto, non conferì all’album molto successo. Così Stefano Piazzi e Marco Premoli lasciarono la band. Nel 1995 Alan Ghirardelli, un giovane bassista amico di Flavio, si unì ai Prowlers. In questo periodo Alfio iniziò a scrivere una colossale suite rock relativa alla storia della band. Fu influenzato dal progressive italiano degli anni settanta, in particolare da The Trip, Osanna, Goblin, Balletto di Bronzo e PFM. Nel 1995 la Mellow iniziò a produrre una serie di tributi ai grandi nomi del progressive mondiale: Gentle Giant, VDGG, Camel… Prowlers suonarono e registrarono “First Light” per il tributo ai Camel e “Ultima Ora / Ode a Jimi Hendrix” dei The Trip per il “Zarathustra Revenge” il tributo discografico al progressive italiano degli anni settanta. Nel 1997, dopo tre anni di duro lavoro, la band entra nei Sonica Studios a Rovereto col grande fonico e musicista Marco Olivotto, per registrare “Sweet Metamorfosi” … in assoluto il miglior lavoro della band. Questo è l’album più progressive del gruppo: una suite rock di sessanta minuti con molti cambi di tempo e di atmosfere. La Voce di Laura Mombrini raggiunge momenti di bellezza ed intensità mai colti in passato, il feeling musicale tra Alfio e Flavio diventa fantastico, mentre Giana e Alan sono gli autentici “mostri del ritmo e del tempo” di questo grande album. “Sweet Metamorfosi” ebbe un grosso successo e oggi è sold out…. Può essere ancora trovato in alcuni cataloghi online statunitensi e forse… ogni tanto qualche copia la si trova in Ebay…. Ma tutti gli album dei Prowlers sono ormai delle vere e proprie rarità. Nel 1998 Alan Ghirardelli lascia la band e Roberto “Bobo” Aiolfi diventa il nuovo bassista. Prowlers registrano “The Sage” per il tributo discografico ad E.L.P. e iniziano il “Sweet metamorfosi tour", ma dopo alcuni concerti Laura Mombrini e Giovanni Vezzoli lasciano la band, che si scioglie definitivamente…. Dopo alcuni mesi Alfio, Flavio e Bobo danno vita ad una nuova avventura musicale… Tilion… .....ma questa è un’altra storia.
