Percussionist Richie Barshay, most noted as a member of the Herbie Hancock Quartet since 2003, has established himself as a prominent musical voice of his generation. Regarded as "a player to watch" by JazzTimes magazine, he maintains a busy international touring schedule with some of today's top artists including Hancock, Kenny Werner, The Klezmatics, and many others. In September of 2004 he was named an American Musical Envoy by the U.S. State Department, along with the renowned Latin-Jazz ensemble Insight. Now based in New York City after 5 years on the Boston music scene, Richie began playing Jazz and Afro-Latin music during his youth and has expanded his focus to Indian rhythmic concepts and tabla, inspiring his 2005 recording debut "Homework" and the launching of his new band, The Richie Barshay Project.
On their 2005 recording debut "Homework", The Richie Barshay Project explores the common ground between Jazz and a variety of world rhythms. Inspired by studies of Indian tabla drumming, with a foundation in Jazz and Latin-American music, the new full-length CD explores these influences in an improvisational setting. With special guests including the legendary Herbie Hancock, the listener is taken on a journey through a range of exotic musical textures, experiencing a fresh rhythmic approach to World Jazz fusion.

how are you? I just wanted to let you know that I will be staying at hall for 2 months after the Year Change 07/08. :-)
The whole semester wasn't possible for me to work out but I think the 2 months will be a great experience.
Basty told me that you're performing with Randy Brecker and Chick Corea now :-) Congratulations to that. Will you be performing at North sea Jazz this year? Basty and I thought about going to the festival this year.
Hey Richie. Good news I've got a deal with a small danish label. So hopefully it wont be too long before the CD comes out. You sound great both here on on my record. :-)

Thought of you guys these past few days and was sending some love West for both of you. Here's hoping-and being certain-that the shows were amazing. I see you're in Mill Valley and if you're looking for the most beautiful public library I've ever seen check that one out. Nature and architecture met in fairly perfect unity in my opinion!
RB!! What's up man? Sorry I've not been in touch... trying to keep busy getting things started. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and see how Brooklyn's treating you. Say what's up to Garz for me. Later!
