   About Ridgetop Syncopators
What?

We're a mostly acoustic, hot fiddle swing band with string bass, lap steel, guitar and tenor banjo accompaniment much like the pioneer bandleaders Milton Brown and his Musical Brownies, Cliff Bruner's Texas Wanderers and the Tune Wranglers.

Our repertoire comes, as it did back then, from old-time fiddle breakdowns, tin pan alley ballads, hot jazz foxtrots, gut bucket blues, minstrel show routines and the requisite waltz. We seem to play quite a few Floyd Tillman numbers as well.

It's music for dancing foremost.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

The folks at Violins Etc can take an average-to-poor sounding bass or violin and make it sound, well, a lot like the tracks on this site. check em out. And next time yer headed out for a Top Notch burger, to Buddy's Place or LaLA's, or anywhere down good old Burnet Rd., be sure to bring your stringed instrument for a tune-up at Violin's Etc.

Mark Rubin & his Ridgetop Syncopators
Hey, hope you are doing well......i've got a busy couple of months coming up. I'm touring the UK for the first time in June with Kevin Montgomery, and then right back to New York for a show at the Lincoln Center on the 29th with the Texas Playboys.
I hear my name is originally English.........."All-sup"-meaning everyone raise their glasses and drink up!!! It took me 75 years, but i'm finally making there.
Anyway, here is a video about the tour, and with some footage from last year in Crete at Songs in the Sun-Crete--you can see it on youtube here www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWCZkbJM3rg, or by going to my myspace.
Take care, and hope to see you soon.
Tommy
