Band MembersSisters Leah and Chloe tear into sound with sensual prowess as stages ingnite revolutions and words light soul fires... listen for poetic voices in divine harmonies, spoken word rallies, banjos, fiddles, many beats of many drums, kalimbas, spoons, washboard rants, and waves of bridge buildings... With an array of incredible collaborations they are joined by everything from the stand up bass, to the jazz trumpet, djembe, baliphone, congas, didgeridoo, tablas, harmonica, beatboxing, poets, trapeze, burlesque, and more as their style branches out to form entirely new ways to make the stage electric... Using sound as a tool to ignite a cultural revolution and birth a whole new movement, come join as we each create our own media in the making....

Sounds LikeThe music is constantly changing as international travel and musical collaborations continue to shape these sounds and influences...raised on the syrup of both 17th century folk tunes and the underground hip-hop movement that occupied their youthful ears...this music is ungenreable...and it looks to stay that way. Infusing blues, mountain music, gospel, spoken word, political songwriting and clever originals, there is no real way to classify their sound. You just have to listen for yourself and prepare to be captivated...

RISE- Evolutions In Sound: LIVE

Evolutions In Sound Cover

Mission Statement:

"RISE (Rising Appalachia) is a genre-bending force of sound that uses both lyrical prowess and diverse artistic collaborations to defy cultural cliches and ignite a musical revolution..."

Music is the tool with which we wield political prowess. Melody for the Roots of each of us...spreading song and sound around the globe. (We are also joining political street theater events, creating with artists and projects across oceans, studying dance and yoga and movement, getting new tattoos, working on recording collaborations, traveling to South America, Africa, India, and the moon, volunteering for international justice projects, writing poetry on the back of scrap napkins, doing a backlog of laundry, reorganizing dusty bookshelves, and learning new languages and new peoples every day...)

Music has become our script for vision. not just for aural pleasure, not just for hobby-but now as a means to connect and create in ways that we aren't taught by this mainstream culture...we are building community and tackling social injustice through melody- making the stage reach out with octopus arms to gather a great family. It is taking its own personality, carrying us all along the journey down the damp and strange alley ways and cryptic coded pathways... to poetic observations, social change, lyrical nonsense, political rage, symphonic coercing, ferocious bantering, cycles and train tracks, primal will, fresh air intoxicants, harmony and alliteration, noise and something sweeter than words can ever touch.

(To those of you who have watched our music grow for the last several years, THANKYOU. We have been learning our own voices. We are using our stages to unite with a global mission that is much greater than any of us alone. The name change is an indication of our own transformation in space, mission, drive, ideals, voice and sound. the RISE collective gives room for our many projects uniting the arts and justice. Our purpose is to wade in the waters of truth and keep building through this massive bridge of art ... To use our voices as a way to heal, the stage as a platform for transformation, the floor as a place to connect people to people, our ears as a way make a new media heard, and our communities as a way to re-envision our reality. We have decided to rewrite the script instead of taking our parts blindly... Please join us as the tribe grows and grows in its prowess, as we are each a part of this delicate puzzle...)
