Bio
In order to achieve that, Rosli opted for a far more intrinsic arrangement, forming a trio that comprised of Keyjohan Ismail on drums, Azman Nirwan on bass, and himself. He also invited accomplished musicians Hamid (Black Dog Bone), and Gavin Cardoza (Energy), to add their touches into the bass and keyboard tracks on selected songs in the album.
With the time spent in the recording studio spanning 11 months from March 2009, the musicians pored over tone, equipment, and the final mastering of the album into the wee hours of the morning. Apart from recording and teaching, Rosli also worked with design studio Luscious Ink to come up with a concept and artworks befitting the world that is DEEPER THAN PURPLE.
With titles like "Last Man Standing", "Deeper Than Purple", "Rachel’s Dance" and "Portrait of Fading Faces", Rosli Mansor weaves a web of songs that lead seamlessly from one to another, each special and unique in their own way.
"Last Man Standing" annals the fearsome and tiring battle that one has to go through, and remaining as the only person standing amidst the desecrated theatre of war.
"Deeper than Purple" tells the tale of a journey beyond the veil, far beyond a supposed reality, with every measured step unravelling yet another mystery. An odyssey into the past, with doors numbered till 13, each a bittersweet memory.
"Rachel’s Dance", the ritual song for lovers and a song that makes you want to dance to remember the lost loves.
"Portrait of Fading Faces" is spine-chillingly poignant. It strikes a chord within everyone, for all we have left are just hazy images, when those who are no longer in our lives start to fade from our minds.
The 13-tracked album, with other songs including "Venice The Love Story", "Sorry I Am Late", "What The Moon Said", and "Broken Thursday", is one that anyone can connect with, reflect on, and relate to. Take a deep breath and delve into Rosli’s realm on a journey DEEPER THAN PURPLE, where you will come to understand his interpretations of his experiences with the six strings as his trusty companions, in his signature way of melodically approaching every moment of a piece.
