   About routineers
In 1994 Ryan Nelson, Todd McDonald and Sean Coleman started playing music together. In July of that year Amanda MacKaye came to a practice and put some words to an arrangement they had written and a band was born. A few months later Jury Rig played their first show at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. A little more than a year later the band broke up, Todd and Sean left DC and Ryan went on to play drums in the Most Secret Method. In 1998 an old friend of Amanda's took her on to book a tour for his band, Frodus. Through the process of booking she met many of their friends including a band called Discount from Florida. She became friends with the band and booked a short tour for them just before they broke up. After the band parted ways Amanda and Discount's drummer, Bill Nesper, stayed in touch and maintained a close friendship. 2001 was a year tumult; Amanda had taken a hiatus from booking tours, The Most Secret Method had broken up and Todd had moved back to DC. Amanda and Ryan started seeing each other more often now that he was not touring and Todd and Amanda ran into each other one night and spoke for first time in roughly six years. The topic of their conversation--starting a band. In the spring of 2002 Amanda and Ryan reminisced about some PJ Harvey spoof songs they had written many years ago. This conversation led into the idea of starting a new band with Todd. However, by this time Ryan had joined forces with Chad Clark to bring Beauty Pill into a working band and was unwilling to commit to playing drums in two bands. Amanda, however, had a card up her sleeve and drummer in her pocket. Bill Nesper was making plans to move from Florida to DC and Amanda managed to reel Ryan in after informing him that Bill would be playing drums in this band and he would be playing guitar. So, in the fall of 2002 Amanda brought everyone together at Ryan's house and by December of 2002 the newly formed, Deep Six, played their first show-- again at the Black Cat. With the decision to put out a record the band also decided to change their name from Deep Six to The Routineers. The new full-length CD was recorded by Ryan Nelson and Ian MacKaye at the Routineers home studio in SE Washington, DC and was mixed with Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA, (Except: Revolution of the Spine, and Al's Magic Shop, which were recorded and mixed at Inner Ear Studios by Don and Ian).
