A teenage prodigy of the ATARI Sampler, Roland TR808/909 & TB303, Aphex composed ambient techno music at the age of 13 - A collection of "over 100 hours" of unreleased music, which he programmed on the ATARI Sequencer and his own software written to generate noise and sfx! Aphex was intune with deep algorithmic processes which automatically generate beats and sequences of analog sound ! In this process he experiences synesthesia ! and he is able to incorporate lucid dreaming into the process of making music. Kraftwerk was founded in 1970 by Florian Schneider-Esleben (flutes, synthesizers, electro-violin) and Ralf Hütter (electronic organ, synthesizers). The two met as students at the Düsseldorf Conservatory in the late 1960s, participating in the German experimental music scene of the time. Although it is heavily downplayed, Hütter and Schneider were keen ..ing to create a new and positive cultural identity in post war Germany. The Kraftwerk sound combines a driving rhythm section with catchy, synthesized melodies and harmony - mainly following a classical style of arrangement accompanied by simple lyrics which are sometimes sung through a vocoder or generated by computer speech software. The Moog synthesizer & Prophet 5 dominate the majority of sound in Kraftwerks' music. Late 1970s and the early 1980s, the Kraftwerk sound was revolutionary for its time, and it has had a lasting impact across nearly all genres of modern popular music. Michelle Lynn Johnson (born August 29, 1968 in Berlin, Germany), better known as Meshell Ndegeocello, prolific and politically motivated singer, songwriter, bass player & multi-instrumentalist. Ndegeocello has had numerous name changes. She adopted the surname Ndegeocello, which means "free like a bird", while still in her teens. Some outlets also state her birth name as Mary Johnson. Meshell Ndegeocello is pronounced MEE-shell n-deh-GAY-o-chel-o. Ndegeocello is bisexual, and was a longtime lover of writer Rebecca Walker - their relationship ended in 2003. Ndegeocello suffers from photosensitive epilepsy and is susceptible to seizures induced by flash photography when performing live. Her music spans from plantation inspired soul, rhymes, blues, Motown funk, Rap to almost every sub genre of black afro sounds and forms. Travelling the traditions of Marcus Miller & Jaco Pastorius in her unique style of electric bass. In collaboration with producer and programmer David Gamson, the sound of her music is very stylised (sampled beats/synthesizers/bass juxtaposed with organic instruments and a very motown sense of groove) - yet retaining an earthy feel and flow. Lyrically outspoken and often harking to the negro apathy and the black struggle in america, her sound has evolved time and again. Her music has been featured in a number of film soundtracks including How Stella Got Her Groove Back , Lost & Delirious, Batman and Robin, Love Jones, Love & Basketball, The Best Man, Lost and Delirious, Higher Learning and Down in the Delta .. Wibutee was originally formed as the jazz trio Triangle in Trondheim, Norway in 1996 by Håkon Kornstad, Wetle Holte and Per Zanussi, then jazz students at the Trondheim conservatory of music. They were joined by Erlend Skomsvoll and Live Maria Roggen. Signed to Bugge Wesseltoft's label Jazzland, circa 98, the band started mixing electronic soundscapes and sampled beats to a noticable euro-jazz flavour which took shape in their debut album Newborn thing . A very unique sound-mood-tone featuring the voice of Maria Roggen created an instant buzz round the world amongst avante garde & nu-jazz audiences. Lineup changes and further poduction stints of Jazzland artists have resulted in Sweet Mental (2006) - Playmachine(2004) & Eight Domestic Challenges (2002) . With each album, Wibutee has offered stunning changes and bold sound palletes in electronic music and all the "jazz" all intwewoven. A curious mix of sampled beats & bass, dub style echos, diffused tones and the bands peculier "grooving" style. Richard (Richie) Hawtin - Electronic composer and globetrotting DJ is an influential part of Detroit techno's second wave of artists. Single handed on decks, laptop and various electronic synthesizers, Hawtin is best known for his haunting, synthetic craft of minimal works under the alias 'Plastikman', a moniker he continued to use circa 2002. Turning to a global audience on the notorious fame of his sound, he traversed the world, headlining at major electronic and rave music festivals. Hawtin is also known for DJing intelligent, minimal techno sets making use of high-tech electronics such as drum machines, sequencers and digital mixing equipment. Hawtin has recorded music under the aliases Plastikman , F.U.S.E, Concept 1, Circuit Breaker, The Hard Brothers, Hard Trax, Jack Master, and UP! Hawtins sound selection, minimal choice vs. maximum impact and a haute sense of mixing remains by far most progressive, at the same time remaining rooted in the Detroit New Wave Acid Scene.
Trentemøller made his debut in 1997 together with DJ T.O.M. when they formed the first live-house act in Denmark, Trigbag. The first single, “Showtime” was played by international DJs such as Alex Gopher, Laurent Garnier or Etienne de Crécy. Trigbag dissolved in 2000. Touring house music junctions round the world Trentmoller eventually got behind the studio, writing his own music. Steve Bug released the renowned Trentemøller EP "Physical Fraction" on his label Audiomatique. This release put Trentemøller on the map of internationally successful producers, and was followed by three releases on Bug’s main label Poker Flat. The albums Polar Shift, Sunstroke and the Nam Nam EP introduced the best work of trentemoller. Carefully crafted synthesizer melodies with a solid 'house' beat and the omipotent presence of dub makes his sound peculier and unique. His use of bass and frequency manipulation in terms of synthesizers is very characteristic to his music. Many reader polls awarded him as the Best Newcomer of the year 2006. His latest offering, The Last Resort (2007) with the single "Moan" featured a video based on the story of russian space dog Laika. Elusive to most media, trentemoller is one sought after producer and Dj of the time.
