The candle burning at both ends, the midnight oils drifting through the air, a generation of unamused youth with only the desire to party hard.

An excerpt from the Diary of one ‘Alexander Saint’ a text now popularly recognized as the first notable description of Finish Him!
January 16th 1845.
I arrived in mainland Europe today, a small town outside of Paris, the locals seem kind but somewhat stressed, I can only wonder why. I am staying in a hotel called ‘Châteaux Titanique’ I am cold and in the winter without my lady rosemary. I travel to the mountains on the morrow to continue with my work for Thomas Edison experimenting with his new discovery “Electricity” hopefully my thoughts will stray from Rosie as I work.
January 17th 1845.
The journey to the mountains proved long and arduous. The horse and carriage could not ride far up the mountain so I had to make the rest of the trek up to the lab on foot. It is my only my second trip to France so regretfully I don’t speak the language very well, making for difficulties in communication with other lab workers and citizens. The work we do is complicated im afraid sometimes I don’t even understand.
One of my fellow scientists spoke to me of a ball he visits often. I may attend this evening; my mind keeps returning to my sweet Rosie and isolation will only worsen these thoughts.
January 18th 1845.
Morning I awake to a terrible headache. There is not much I remember from last night, I can remember entering the ballroom I was told of by Jacques. It was situated down a dark alleyway. I can remember feeling uneasy about the whole thing, after all how many ballrooms do you find in an alleyway. I probably wouldn’t have found it only Jacques told me it would be marked by a sign reading ‘Viva La Discotheque.’ I remember entering the ballroom and purchasing my first drink, after that I have no recollection.
Im going to return tonight im not sure what it is but there is something compelling about the place, I feel as though something is pulling me in.
January 19th 1845..
My return to the Discotheque as I have now come to call it, brought so much more clarity yet, was even more bizarre than my last visit. Inside people dance as though they ought to be institutionalized, it’s preposterous! And then ‘they’ waltzed through the room with a stomp in their step and a fire that burns in their eyes! It is said they are born from the fires of a thousand kilns. A Bartender told me Tibetan monks call them ‘Finish Him’ a group of scoundrels pretending to be upstanding gentlemen.
They do nothing but play loud, absurd music and dance; by day they sleep so to be ready for another night of debauchery.
Their sound is maddening; devil violins and un-earthly voices dissipate into the smoky atmosphere. Sounds cascade over one another. Words cannot describe why but I lost control of my body, I began to dance, slow at first but gradually faster and faster, my feet picking up speed with the rhythm of the music.
I am reborn, never before have I seen such depravity at my own hands, I doubt I shall ever again. Time slips by me as I am propelled into even darker territories. The leader of the faction stalks amongst the dancers his eyes fixated on me. He claps. With that everything comes to a complete halt. People stare into nothingness possibly wondering where they are for a split second before he opens his mouth to say “Everybody… Do the Samba… Delta… Alpha… November… Charlie… Echo!” and just like that song breaks out again and people resume dancing. I am swept along with the current almost drowning in entwining bodies. I am forced to dance once more. Everything else is a blur.
January 20th 1845.
I amongst many others awake from a deep slumber still in the room we had spent the night indulging in the temptations offered from the Garden of Eden. The group known, as Finish Him was nowhere to be found, only the stale smell of ale and a ringing in our ears remained.
Unable to move, almost unable to breathe, there can be no happy end to my story, I delivered myself to the gates of purgatory and now I must depart. To my Rosemary, I am deeply sorry we will meet in another life.
A wise man once said to me “Live like a Hero… Die like A Saint.” Not entirely sure who that wise man is though…
The excerpt ends here, as does the diary and as does A. Saint’s story.
