   About Scott Dakota - Producer
Scott finds particular satisfaction in producing music at the intersection of intelligent underground-flavored art sensibility and hook-laden seductive mainstream appeal. Subversive thought-provoking art for the masses, sugar for the hipsters.

--------------------------

Composer, Producer, Arranger, Performer, Bandleader, Instructor - Scott Dakota is always making sonic art. Whether it's as shepherd to others, along with others, or as a solo artist, Scott is passionately driven to make art that matters.

In his hat as Producer, Scott most recently finished up the hotly awaited debut album of dissolute darlings The Steamy Bohemians, with steamy genius Lainey Schulbaum as co-producer. "Technicolor Radio" is a sonic fantasia of edgy comedy, uber hooky smart pop, low and high humor, witty electro rock, skewed musical theatre, sexy tomfoolery, and delightful bewilderment. A concept album gone somehow quite awry, yet somehow just right. Tour de whimsy.

Technicolor Radio has been very well received, and the buzz is palpable. The Steamies are garnering more and more glowing press and an ever growing base of devoted followers.

Always ongoing is Scott's production and composition and sonic-brainwave-ambient-experimental collaborative partnership with underground legend producer/performer/composer Garvy J (Solo Artist, The Elevator Drops, Hidreamwave, The Rentals, Matt Sharp, Adam Green, Maxi Geil & Play Colt, Tracy Bonham, Joan Wasser). As roving associate producer, Scott has been an integral part of the long simmered, polished, and perfected Garvy J debut album, bouncing ideas and conceptions and dropping sonic treatments, parts, and angles. The track here, "Break You" was co-written and co-developed by Scott, and features all manner of mysterious sonic ambient touches and secret-recipe exotic electronica mix treatments by Scott.

In their applied research into sonic art for brainwave modulation and directed consciousness (via exploration of pythagorean/sumerian sacred mathematical sound techniques) Scott and Garvy J have a large and growing body of work, some of which has appeared in various artsy films, and some of which you can go soak in at Hidreamwave.

As co-producers/co-composers, Scott Dakota and Garvy J have tag team produced other artists as schedules permit. Sparks fly, magic is made. An example track here of elusive NYC singer Sophia Corbeau, "Goddess", splits the difference between power-femme dance club confection, hooky spooky goth pop, and gritty NYC attitude. This track also features guest appearance by Parker Kindred (drummer for Jeff Buckley, The Gnomes, and Adam Green) on ethnic-flavored hand percussion and playful junk percussion.

As performer/bandleader/songwriter, Scott most recently co-fronted and led art-glam conceptual theatrical rock band Valhalla Kittens, known for their audience-wowing over-the-top live shows. In the VKs, Scott has been blessed to be working with and alongside one of the highest concentrations of talent in recent Boston music: soprano Courtney Naliboff aka Kitten Pearl (The Nonfamous, The Charms, Joe Lies, Gato Malo, Voodoo Screw Machine, Robbie Roadsteamer, Larry Banilow), mezzo Georgia Young aka Kitten Rosa II (World's Greatest Sinners, Robbie Roadsteamer, Reverend Glasseye), mezzo Naomi Kenner aka Kitten Rosa I (Joe Lies, Larry Banilow), alto Jordan Valentine aka Kitten Violet (World's Greatest Sinners, The B-3's, Larry Banilow, Robbie Roadsteamer), guitarist Bill "Bone" Trevaskis (Longknives, The Charms, Anti-Love Project, Of the Lion, La Gata Negra), bass guitarist Ethan Mackler aka Black Wednesday aka Johnny Orbit (Boston Rock Opera, Radio Pu, La Gata Negra), drummer Justin Tibbetts (Rosie Huntress, Paula Kelley, World's Greatest Sinners, La Gata Negra).

Prior to that, Scott was half of the legendary cult favorite pagan/celt/earth-spiritual band The Moors on Castle von Buhler Records. Playing a self-designed and modified fretless wide range guitar, he provided lush microtonal soundscapes, live-created orchestrated loops, and witchy goth Zeppelin-esque stomp to acclaimed performer/composer and author/scholar/instructor Sharynne NicMhacha's power goddess vocals, woodwinds, and multi-instrumental talents. Their debut and only album, "The Moors" is still considered a definitive classic of the genre to this day. The album was produced by Scott and Sharynne (at New Alliance Studios), and the dark lavish sonic multi-dimensionality of the sound of the album was also much acclaimed by local, national, and international press. "The Hunter / Cernunnos" here is the lead cut from that album.

As performer, Scott has played baritone guitar and textural guitar on a few gigs with the lovely and talented Sarah Rabdau, with Nathan "Cuddles" Greenslit (Humanwine) on drums.

As studio musician, Scott tracked pixie-dust ethereal sonic guitars and textures on multitalented singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Emily Grogan's debut album. Way back, Scott and Emily were in a band together with intense drummer Greg Gilmartin (Green Magnet School).

Scott has produced and collaborated on tracks with underground legend, genius microtonal composer, and firebrand guitarist Dan Stearns.

He has done live recording for microtonal performer/composer nexus the Joe Maneri Quartet, hanging out with the Boston Microtonal Society.

Scott has done some development recording for smart-folk songstress Audrey Ryan.

Scott did some interim tracking and mixing for northern soul champs the World's Greatest Sinners.

Scott and Garvy J co-produced some tracks for Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys, country punk cousin band to Lenny Lashley's Darkbuster.

Alongside his career as composer/performer and producer, Scott has long been a highly respected private instructor in guitar, composition and theory, bass, vocal coaching, also with lessons in pythagorean sacred sound techniques. He also teaches audio recording and engineering in both the analog and digital realms.

* Work Policy *

All production, arranging, recording, editing, and mixing work for hire is negotiated per project: budget and goals are matched. Scott does not do "spec", meaning speculative work for free in the hopes that an artist may come into backing or money later.
