15 year old composer/pianist,
Chase Morrin.
The band plays original jazz and Latin jazz compositions written by Chase
and puts together unique and original Latin jazz arrangements—striving for

Chase Morrin —
Pianist/Composer is 16 and a junior at Canyon Crest Academy. Chase
started composing and playing piano after discovering a toy keyboard at age
8. By age 12, he became the youngest recipient of the National ASCAP
(American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) award presented to
him at the Lincoln Center in New York. His composition awards also include
the Composers’ Today State awards in 2007 and 2008 from the Music Teachers
Association of California (MTAC) and is a new member of the Young Composer's Guild. Chase received the prestigious
Herb Alpert Scholarship for emerging young artists by the faculty of the
California Summer School for the Arts--InnerSpark. Chase has also been
awarded as an “outstanding soloist,” “most talented,” and “musician of the
year.” Chase directs, composes, and arranges for the band. Chase also directs, conducts and plays piano for local musical theater groups. You can check

Daniel Feldman— Percussionist/Drummer is 16 and a junior at Canyon
Crest Academy. He plays in the
school’s jazz band, combo, and wind ensemble. Daniel has performed with a
variety of adult bands around town and he is in Canyon Crest Academy’s music
conservatory after-school program. Daniel plans to major in music after high
school.
Michael Valentini—
Bassist is 18 and a freshman at San Diego State University. Michael discovered
the bass in high school after years of studying piano. He’s a self taught
musician that can handle any musical chart today. Michael currently plays in
San Diego’s The Jazz Ensemble and like other members of the Latin
Connection, has studied at the UCSD Jazz Camp and worked with legendary San
Diego jazz musicians; Willie Jones, Rob Thorsen, Mike Wofford and Gilbert
Castellanos. The band does not envy Michael as he is currently working on
the college application and admission process.
Fernando Gomez—
Percussionist is 18 and just graduated from East Lake High School. Fernando is the newest member of the band, a self-taught drummer. Fernando has studied with drumming greats such as Dave Weckl, Horacio“ El Negro” Hernandez, Steve Smith, and more. He has played with many local professional jazz musicians, and he records frequently at EarthBound Recording studios. Currently Fernando performs regularly with the Karla Irish Jazz Trio, Chase Morrin trio, and the Southwestern College Afro cuban band.
