Seattle's "Serenity Forever/Equality Now" Charity Event - June 23rd, 2007.
Can't Stop the Serenity - Seattle, Washington

Here's how it was...
Created by fans of the movie Serenity, Can't Stop the Serenity (CSTS) has become a worldwide benefit movement. What started in a handful of cities in the US quickly grew into a global event with organizers signing on from Adelaide, Australia to Leeds, UK. The week of June 23rd, 47 cities held screenings of Serenity and raised over $65,900 for Equality Now.
Can't Stop the Serenity is more than a fan revival; sure fans get to see Serenity once more on the big screen but more importantly, Equality Now can benefit from a truly unique, worldwide fund raiser.
Why Equality Now?
Equality Now is Joss Whedon's (writer/director of Serenity) charity of choice. It was founded in 1992 by Jessica Neuwirth, who was deeply inspired by her mentor Lee Stearns (Whedon's mother).
Equality Now is an international organization that works for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses. Meanwhile in Seattle...
On Saturday, June 24th, more than 200 people came together at Magnuson Park Community Center to celebrate their love of Serenity. Spirits were high and so was the temperature! We watched Serenity and raffled off many fine gift packs. Seattle raised $1,229 for Equality Now.
We'd like to thank the many, many kind Browncoats who donated items, volunteered their time and shared their hard won credits! Xie xie!
