Secta Rouge may (or may not) be a band of ill-repute from Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. (We!) masquerade as specialist practitioners of intense, jarring, hypno-spazz brain assaults [Occasionally resulting in prolapse]. We like to (must?) sonically///alchemically recycle shards of noisecore, math rock, hardcore punk, grindcore, jazz fusion, black metal and movie soundtrack B-sides and [-hydroponically-] fissure them together to produce eclectically-structured alien RAWKK MonolithOracles. Lyrically (Que?!) we lean towards parodies, analogies and word-play (Read:Wordsalad) as well as cryptic references to wrestling, B-Movies, mythology, Sci-fi-antasy, Qix and vintage media offshooteries amongst a host of other topics [...delve once more into the void of trivialities...].
"It used to be a simple matter of going LOUDquietLOUD for a band to be interesting, but now that’s not enough. Bands have to be able to be LOUD and quiet at the same time, or something. Ummm, what? It’s easy to over-spraff about vicious post-metal stop-on-a-dime shenanigans instead of getting into an incredibly erratic polyrhythmic mosh pit, as should be done. Somewhere between System Of A Down and Dillinger Escape Plan's Irony Is a Dead Scene, Secta Rouge are maybe (shhh) more fun than either of those two prospects. Technically dazzling and with lyrics that are serious but not taken seriously, can’t wait to see them live. 4/5" - The Skinny
"They cut a refreshingly un-generic path for themselves, little bit Patton-esque squawking, a bit mathy tempo changing, some serious bone breaking riffage. Not ever likely to be accused of taking themselves to seriously, none the less they still have a point to make with some intelligent lyrical insights" - Cold Dead Hands
"It was like being attacked by a swarm of bees!! It's so intense! But then, once in a while, it goes all beautiful and you accept that they're only bees and it'll all be okay." [Later physically sick] - Unprepared Girl
EXPOSURE:::
As a band we have "performed" to audiences across the UK on several small tours with another land-voyage planned before the end of the current year. We have been fortunate enough to have stood on our soapboxes alongside Ed Gein, Zu, HORSE the Band, Blakfish, Phoenix Bodies, Meet Me in St Louis, Pack, Chickenhawk, With Scissors, COAW, D-Rail, Errander, Planks, Belle Epoque, Tombs, Action Beat and lots of others of varying styles and origins. We strive to play live as much as possible and find it a thoroughly fun!!! (and cathartic) experience.
LATE-BREAKING NEWS:::
18/09/09 - We're currently holed up at home and in Split Level Studios recording out debut album. A 9 track wonder-opus that may or may not be called "Piracy on the Vertical Seas". This record will be awesome (even if it does cause one of us to drop a lung and/or blow out their O-Ring). Hopefully somebody will release it publically (applications on a postcard), either that or it will be out on our own DampSquib Recordings label (HA!).

MONOTONIX Saturday 28th November Nice n Sleazys, Glasgow
The release of their new album tops off a whirlwind year of touring, the infamy surrounding their charged live perfomances steadily mounting. Rightly so, check out this youtube link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmEHu-QAgNE&feature=related - and marvel at one of the typically unpredictable gigs of the band that Spin have declared the "most exciting live band in rock'n'roll."

KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES Sun 4th Oct @ Stereo, Glasgow
We have just added ##THE BLACK RAT DEATH SQUAD## to the bill
Support comes from Jack of Hearts Uncle Big Bad
"Fusing the driving stomps of classic sixties soul with the muddy yet crunchy guitars and puerile words of garage rock, King Khan & The Shrines are one of those uncommon groups who seem to live in the past and still make an attention-grabbing noise. The Supreme Genius is a retrospective of their work this century from initial 45s through to the cleaner more sophisticated efforts of their last proper album, What Is?!. Soul is certainly a key ingredient in the Shrine's psychedelic stew, though purists would balk at describing the end product as one of their own ('filthy racket' being the likely response). Fans of the 'rock 'n' soul' pedigree stretching from the Kingsmen to The Make Up and The Black Lips, however, should be more accepting, as will anyone who likes their music loud and raucous" BBC Music
