About me:
The SEEDs program was started in Santa Fe, NM in the year 2000. It was created with the intention of promoting confidence, independence, health, respect, integrity and community among young women ages 15-18. This life changing program is now in gear to kick off in our own beautiful city of Portland, OR. Come experience SEEDs of Euphoria!
The Goals of SEEDs are met through various arts and practices, mainly the art of Tribal Style Belly Dance. Through the art of Belly Dance young women are taught to respect and use their bodies in a healthy way while also creating joy and nourishing creativity. This style of dance is focused ..ment and improvisation as a group or a "tribe". Through this format, the dancers are taught the delicate balance between leading and following and working together as a cohesive group. These elements are just as important to Tribal Belly Dance as they are to life. Other important aspects of the program are journal writing and talking circles. These tools are extremely useful in helping young women find their own voices and to realize their ability to communicate their ideas and form individual opinions. The talking circles allow the group to convey information, share feelings and ideas and to listen to one another in an environment where they are respected and treated as equals. This chance to be heard and to relate to one another is sometimes a rare opportunity for this age group.
The last central element of the program is the use of professional guest speakers to educate the girl about important life issues which are often neglected,such as balancing a checkbook, investing money, budgeting, women's health, nutrition, and community. We also bring in successful career women and business owners from the Portland area to inform the girls about careers of their choice.
The SEEDs program acts as a platform for self-discovery, in which young women are supported and encouraged to make good decisions for their lives and to reach their goals.
Who I'd like to meet: Young women ages 15-18 in the Portland area who are interested in participating in the SEEDs of Euphoria after school program, our new session will begin in the fall of 2008! Come join us for a life changing experience!
