What the critics have been saying about the Serpico EP:
“…the birth of Edinburgh's Serpico is worth celebrating; there's enough quality hooks to suggest mighty things are afoot here. With production from Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory) you'd expect nothing less, but all would be lost if the material was without meat. Thankfully, the opposite is the case - these are dark, muscular movements with rippling, polished guitar, a kind of mangle of Killing Joke and Avenged Sevenfold. There's ambition and complexity, but nothing that isn't accessible. For Fans Of: Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold” 4/5
Steve Beebee, Kerrang!
“Massive slabs of punk-infused three chord wondrousness. A snotty teenage HIM, or a Scottish-accented Misfits or Layne Stayley singing Funeral For A Friend at a karaoke party. Serpico sit somewhere in the hinterland between 90s metal (a la Deftones), melodic hardcore (like Ignite) and post-grunge stuff like Stone Temple Pilots. Cerebral music for people who like some weight behind their rock.”
Not Katie Parsons, Metal Hammer ‘Incoming’ Feature - but we still love her :)
“Anthemnic, chest-beating punky metal… full throttle, balls-out hard rock as it were meant to be. And, in the spirit of AC/DC, we salute them for it.”
Nightshift Magazine, Oxford
“… a polished, raucous sheen of distortion and melodic vocals… in Kultura, Serpico bring the mosh. It's a pacy, rhythmic thrash-out with intelligent syncopations evocative of the Foos or QOTSA. Definitely enough here to merit checking them out live.”
James Borthwick, The Skinny Magazine
"Serpico's debut EP is a refreshing slice of well crafted tuneful metal with a surprisingly slick production. The Scottish four piece have created a dirty, dark yet uplifting metal sound that veers from massive and heavy to fuzzy and intimate from moment to moment but means business at all times; no messing about, just heavy riffs powerfully gruff vocals and excellent melodies.
The rich fuzzy sound on this excellent four track EP is evidently grunge inspired to a certain degree, (think a much, much heavier Nirvana), but it also has a really fresh edge that brings to mind hook laden melodic metal like Avenged Sevenfold. It's great to hear new British metal of this quality and luckily Serpico do all this without any of the over the top bluster, stupid haircuts and pop star pretensions that so many bands seem to think are necessary, this EP is a triumph of music over style; good tunes, sing along choruses and heavy guitars. What more do you need?"
Emma Gould, Roomthirteen.com
“A metallic riffing machine with perfectly singable verses and choruses. An attempt at merging sneering punk with the more dissonant delights of metal, it's like a younger Velvet Revolver…”
Brad Barrett – Play Music Magazine
“…a band fronted by a man with a very cool name – Mikey Serpico!”
Bruce Dickinson – Iron Maiden legend

“KKKK- the birth of Edinburgh’s Serpico is worth celebrating” - Kerrang!
Serpico are a 5 piece melodic punk/metal band from Edinburgh, Scotland. Formed in mid-2005, when singer Mikey found drummer Jonny and bassist Iain through the internet, the band has progressed from tiny local band to the brink of breakout national success in a few short years.
In 2006, famed LA-based producer Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory, MSI) was so impressed with the young band that he travelled to the UK to record their debut EP at the Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire. After 3 days the band emerged with the Serpico EP, which went on to sell over 2000 copies at gigs and through the band's myspace. It also received a warm critical reaction, with Kerrang giving it 4Ks and also some impressive airplay, with '400 Blows to the Head' being debuted on Bruce Dickinson's Rock Show - no mean feat for an unsigned and unheard of band from Edinburgh!
This lead to shows with some huge bands in 2007. Gigs with platinum punks AFI and goth legends Paradise Lost were followed with tours around the UK and Europe with INME, Black Stone Cherry, LostAlone and Wednesday13.
2008 saw the band enter the studio with Rhys Fulber to record their debut album, Neon Wasteland. The instruments were recorded at Chapel Studios, again with engineer Will Bartle (BFMV, FFAF), and then Mikey went out to LA with Rhys to do the vocals at Emblem Studios in LA, owned by Matt Serletic (Matchbox20, Aerosmith). Post production work in LA was assisted by reknowned producer and engineer Mike Plotnikoff (Buckcherry, MCR, Papa Roach) and this resulted in the 13 tracks of Neon Wasteland.
This activity didn't stop the band from touring hard, going out with Stone Gods and then embarking on hugely successful tours with Aiden, Elliot Minor and Kill Hannah. These were real breakout shows for the band, with both new material and old really connecting with audiences.
2009 sees the release of Neon Wasteland and first single, We Own The Night. With an awesome video directed by Nick Bartleet (Pendulum, Youmeatsix, Brigade), airplay from XFM, and positive reviews coming in, it looks primed for success.
The band will hit the road in April in support of the single/album and will most likely be playing in a town near you!!
