Originally formed in 1999 by half-brothers James "Smitty" Smith and Jason Bobbitt, the band Signal 7 was to be a spawn of the "trailer band" known as The Dent Corporation. The two brothers, having only recently met, decided to trade instruments in order to more fully challenge themselves. Signal 7 would be a last-ditch-effort, a final attempt by the two to create a successful music act.

Drummer Ross Lockard was to replace the ancient Boss drum machine pending his return from military duties overseas in late 2001. His arrival was anxiously anticipated as the band had yet to find a worthy, dedicated drummer that everyone was comfortable with.

In 2002 Signal 7 began their first studio recording sessions - a one song demo entitled "Bag Lady". The demo was to be submitted to a contest for local bands to play on stage with commercial acts.

Steve Hart, the original vocalist of The Dent Corporation, and cousin to Smitty and Jason was quick to step up to the open position for vocalist. Over the years Steve had developed a sound and feel all of his own. It was this mixture of tonality, feeling, and southern twang that began to define the sound of the seVen. The last-ditch effort began to become a top priority in all four members lives, and they quickly returned to the studio to begin laying down demo tracks.

But it would never come so easily to any of them. Ross was still an active National Guardsman and was deployed back overseas shortly after the 9/11 attacks of 2002. Signal 7 would either have to find another drummer or put the entire project on hold for yet another year. They chose the latter out of respect and loyalty to the drummer and friend that took them so long to find.

With the recent return of Ross Lockard and a strong sense of committment and dedication from all members, the 7 is back! Currently, Signal 7 can be found at venues in and around Roanoke, VA between working on their latest album, Service With A Smile.
