Drawing on the diverse musical backgrounds of its band members, Shannon Lambert-Ryan & RUNA brings a contemporary and refreshing experience to traditional and more recently composed Celtic material. Through their repertoire of both highly energetic and graceful acoustic melodies, along with their fusion of music from Ireland, Scotland, Shetland Islands, Canada, and the United States, this vocal and instrumental ensemble give their traditional songs and tunes a fresh sound.
Coming from a variety of musical backgrounds including Celtic, folk, classical, and musical theatre, Shannon Lambert-Ryan, of Philadelphia, fronts the band with rich, vibrant vocals, and gentle piano playing. As a musician, she has spent the past two years as the lead female vocalist in the world music group, the Guy Mendilow Band. Additionally, she has performed as a vocalist with a number of artists, including John Flynn, Joe Jencks, Iain Campbell Smith, and Bob Beach.
With his innovative style of rhythmic playing, Dublin-based guitarist Fionán de Barra, of Moya Brennan and Fiddler’s Bid, contributes new dynamics both to the band’s high-energy tunes and its captivating ballads. On fiddle, Kevin Henderson, of Boys of the Lough, Fiddler’s Bid, and Session A9, layers the music with his haunting tone and the infectious spirit of the Shetland style. The vocals and guitar playing of Stuart Eaglesham, of the Scottish folk-rock group, Wolfstone, lend a contemporary edge to the traditional sound of the band. Canadian percussionist, Cheryl Prashker, of The Strangelings, brings a wide range of percussive styles to the music, increasing the versatility of the band’s arrangements.
Your is a beautiful voice that evokes the tradition and Celtic melodies. Great performance in 'Erin gra' mo Groi '. Good the version of Raggle taggle gipsy'. My compliments and congratulations also for collaboration with Moya :)......
Hello Shannon, My goodness you get around.. Leave a kiss in Dublin for me when you are there..and a hug for Cormac. Seems a long time since Joe's Pub, where I met you= hope you can still remember me!
You all sounded great on XPN last night. I heard most of the show while driving home. Really energetic versions of the songs from the new CD! Shannon, your voice sounded great as always! Fionan's guitar sounded like it was on fire! It seems like Gene Shay got a big kick out of Cheryl's chimes!
You're heading to Ireland just as Cyndi and I are coming home! See you when you get back from your various travels!
Hey There, Hope all is well with you...I got a new song up on my player "Put Up or Shut Up, Stand Up or Lay Down". It's dedicated to the Shreveport Next Great City of the South Movement.
We are very pleased to announce that the 4star EP is finished! Recorded at Cambridge Sound Studios in Newtown, PA, by Grammy nominated producer Jim Salamone, the recording features 6 original songs, and it definitely rocks! The first two songs are posted on our myspace page: www.myspace.com/4startheband. The songs are described below.
1) Money Burning Machine - This song is posted on our myspace page.
2) Rear Upper Flat - This is also posted on our myspace page.
3) John William Bell - This one is a high energy high speed "punk-grass" tune with a mind blowing fiddle solo by noted local bluegrass and Celtic musician Mark Arrington at the end of the song. Mark played banjo on the song as well. The song is about a Revolutionary War era outlaw turned soldier we call John William Bell. Sorry, you need to get the CD to hear this one, or come to one of our upcoming shows, where you can both hear the song live and buy the CD!
4) Fourth Street Juke Joints – In this song 4star pays homage to the masters of blues and early rock and roll with a straight-ahead almost punk style.
5) Rumor on My Tuner – With tripped out lyrics and diminished chords throughout, this song features big guitars and 3-part harmonies. Jim Salamone sings in the opening two lines of the song.
6) She Cat Raindog – Originally written using refrigerator magnets and with the help of a small child, this song closes the CD. It’s a mid-tempo “anthemic” folk rock tune heavy on harmonies and rock and roll guitars.
We have several shows coming up and we will have CD’s for sale at each:
1) Friday July 17th at 10PM at the Red Stallion in Warrington, PA
2) Saturday July 18th at 3PM at John and Peter’s in New Hope. Come on out for this one. It’s our first “EP/CD Release Party”!
The CD will be also available at certain local record stores and online within the upcoming weeks. Details to follow!
