Singer/Songwriter Simone Gill performs her diverse soul-pop tunes around home town Melbourne with conviction and depth. From soulful, introspective ballads to funky riff driven pop, Simone sings about lessons learned, friendship and things that get under her skin. Born in Hobart Tasmania, Simone sang from a young age. After moving to Melbourne in her late teens, Simone discovered soul music and was captivated by the sounds of Etta James and Stevie Wonder. Mary J Blige, India Ari and Jill Scott, as well as the strong female voices of Australian music Suze De Marchi, Renee Geyer and Chrissy Amphlett have also had a strong impact. Over the last few years Simone has been showcasing her original material at Melbourne venues such as The Evelyn Hotel, Wesley Anne, 303, Veludo, Transport Bar, Paris Cat, Ruby's Lounge and Sippers. Simone has performed at the Oz Soul Collective's Oz Soul Sundays at the Toff (which regularly feature the likes of Ella Thompson, Jade Macrae, Ngaiire and Jess Harlen) both in February 2011 with her band and in October 2010 in a collaborative set with locals Rachael Berry and Arowe. Simone has also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Nadene Satch, Nyssa Bradsworth and The Liz Violi Band. Having dreamed of making an album for many years, it wasn't until pre-production began late in 2008 that Simone began enacting her goal. With a great band - Graeme Pogson (drums), Luke Hodgson (bass), Jaimi Faulkner (guitar) and Nat Bartsch (keys) and engineer (Dave Manton) on board it was time to start recording in mid 2009. After a wonderful learning experience getting it together, the debut was released independently in June 2010 after a successful launch at Paris Cat. A diverse soul/pop record, 'Count my blessings' is sometimes breezy and mellow and at other times edgy and gritty. "The local soulstress is a breath of fresh air, setting her own style". Singer/Songwriter Simone Gill performs her diverse soul-pop tunes around home town Melbourne with conviction and depth. From soulful, introspective ballads to funky riff driven pop, Simone sings about lessons learned, friendship and things that get under her skin.

Born in Hobart Tasmania, Simone’s introduction to music came from her Father and Grandfather, but it wasn’t until she and her family moved to Melbourne in 1996 that Simone experienced some amazing opportunities to perform, during the latter part of her school years. As a young adult Simone experienced the soulful sound of Etta James and was in awe. Stevie Wonder, Mary J Blige, India Arie as well as the strong female voices of Australian music Suze De Marchi, Renee Geyer and Chrissy Amphlett have also had a strong impact.

Simone studied music at Box Hill Institute between 2002 and 2007, graduating with with a Bachelor of Applied Music. It was during these years Simone met most of her band: Graeme Pogson (drums) Luke Hodgson (bass) and Nat Bartsch (keys) who have contributed so much to both live gigs and in the studio for debut album ‘Count my blessings’. Over the last few years Simone has performed at: Wesley Anne, 303, Veludo, Manchester Lane, Transport Bar, Cape Live, Ruby’s Lounge, Brunswick Hotel, Retreat Hotel, Bar Nancy, and many others; and has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of Nadene Satch, Nyssa Bradsworth, The Liz Violi Band and Pleasing Anna. Simone has also enjoyed singing backing vocals for other local projects Bianca Fenn and the September Knights and James Hampton Band.

Having had a vision of making her first album for some years, it wasn’t until pre-production began late in 2008 that Simone began enacting her goal. With a great band (also on the album is guitarist and school friend Jaimi Faulkner) and engineer (Dave Manton) on board it was time to start recording in mid 2009. After a wonderful experience getting it together, the debut was released in June 2010. A diverse soul/pop record, ‘Count my blessings’ is sometimes breezy and mellow and at other times edgy and upfront.
