(taken from the book SKETCHY PIMPS - A HISTORY OF WILD by Marlon Riley)
Mad Ron and Crispy Wonga met at a full moon party in Siam (now Thailand) in the early 1960s. They instantly began shaking the foundations of the international folk scene with albums like "Beard Science" and "Hessian Claw" which deconstructed the musical norms of the time and brought a sense of wonder and illusion into the folk scene. The next 20 years were a blur of travelling and learning seeing both the young Pimps learn the ropes on the freak out circuit. They met the straggling beats, played acid badminton with the beatles and shared baths with the small faces. Their music grew into the first incarnation of the signature sketchy pimps sound just as the 1980s began to unleash electro and synth pop on the world. Their first album as a the Pimps, "Vogue Oscillator" went platinum in 12 countries and they began a tour schedule that persists to this day.
Fast forward to 2007 and the Sketchy pimps have invented a new style of music which will come to be known as psychedelic trance. Its rash, hyperactive but mystical. The grooves borrow from techno and trance but the space and colour reaches further into music’s heady beginings. The life experience of these wild old rockers shines from every note. Turn on, tune in, sketch out.

While nowadays it often seems like all the Psy Trance labels either reduce the speed of their releases and turn to more and more body-orientated club sounds or crank up the tempo of their music to rather hectic levels, Solar Tech Records delivers an excellent selection of tunes that keeps the golden mean: With tracks between 142 and 145 BPM the music is powerful, driving and very psychedelic on the one hand but also progressive in the original meaning of the word and does not get stressful or kitschy at any point. For this second compilation label owner DJ Natron extended his network of promising producers from South Africa, Switzerland, UK, Germany and South America and again presents some sparking pearls for original Psychedelic lovers.
