Skybox is the vehicle of Chicago musicians Tim Ellis, Christian Fields, Mike Holtz and Sean Brennan. In 2006 the band released Arco Iris, their debut record, which garnered a nationwide cult following the breakthrough success of the song "Various Kitchen Utensils". The band toured heavily in support of the record, including dates with Man Man, Ben Folds, Tilly and the Wall, Tally Hall, and The Figurines. In 2009 the band recorded the follow up album with acclaimed producer Sean O'Keefe at Smart Studios in Madison, WI and Chicago's Black Sheep Music. "Morning After Cuts", which will be released in spring 2010, finds singer Tim Ellis in peak songwriting form, careening from Bowie glam to Flaming Lips exuberance without bothering to apologize. Their live shows are deservedly storied, often evolving into spectacles that in the past have included costumes, confetti, go go dancers, snack cakes and the occasional chicken suit.
