Courtney Wachtel (vocal, guitar, piano)
Always open to the idea of more people, but for now the other band members exist only in my head.

Cat Power, Regina Spektor, Imogen Heap, Sarah McLachlan, Wilco, Radiohead, Laura Marling, Feist, Ani DiFranco, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley, but mostly the local artists and musicians, which there are literally too many to list and I love them all. Nature, random occurences, street performers, rainy days, sunsets, oceans, mountains, snow, laughing, cute cafes, traveling etc. etc. etc. The canvas has infinite potential and infinite sources to draw from. I am still in the early stages of potential, which makes everything all so exciting!

the playing of heart strings amongst a brilliant night sky
I am currently in the process of recording a new cd to be released sometime in May as well as performing around the Bay Area mostly. I am constantly writing and my ideas can be fleeting at times so whenever I find something that sticks I feel euphorically overjoyed. My muse still comes and goes when it pleases, but like the ocean with the tides I ride the waves and let it take me. I am priveleged to know so many wonderful and talented people that have really expanded my idea of the endless possibility in music, and the journey in itself is so rewarding that the end result is of less consequence and more purposeful happenstance. I like that. I also love having something to share that can be continued to be given and grow. I am just so grateful. Thank you for your friendship and support. Courtney Nicole
Folk rock artist Courtney Nicole is the latest in a line of musical tradition stretching back a long way. And she's the voice of the future. Combining traditional elements with her unique vision, Courtney is a songwriter with heart and spunk. She wears her heart on her sleeve but she's strong. And it comes across in the music. This is a woman and an artist we can both love and respect.
No Such Thing as Off Limits
Part of being an emotionally and intellectually honest songwriter is being willing to confront anything. The heart is a source of many feelings and not all are happy or pleasant. But they all contain truth. And there is the secret of Nicole's songwriting. She isn't afraid to confront anything the human soul can conjure. “No emotion is off limits when dealing with music,” she says. But that's the beauty of music. “It can enhance the happiness in your day or soothe the heartache in your chest.” Confronting the pain as well as the joy is the only way music finds its full power. “It runs the gamut of emotion, which is why it is so powerful. I find music therapeutic and necessary for the soul.”
Transcending Language
One of music's greatest rewards, besides the healing factor, is the simply electricity of connecting with others. Music enablers interconnectivity between people that is unique to its power. Nicole's power to connect via music is an astounding strength of her songwriting. “Music connects people with people in a way that transcends language alone. Meaning can be twisted to fit infinite people in an infinite number of ways. Music is my spirituality ...”
“Courtney Nicole is helping to bring the idea of power in musical honesty back to the people.”

My attempts to create an Open at the Mama Buzz Cafe have failed. The will be no open mic at the Mama Buzz cafe. The "Every Second Sunday" open mic has been double booked for the second month in a row. It is clear I'm not suited to be the host of an open mic. Thank you all for your interest and support. My sincerest apologies to all musicians poets that hoped and even planned for this open mic.
love is a form it calls to all, for the essence of panic is chaos of no desirable trait except wished upon thy enemy. So as i do much more than stumble through this persistant, pathetic, chaos laden frustration, I hear the call. love is in my head, love is in my very being, and i know to strut on. i laugh about 'staying alive', for I now know I will always be.
