UPDATE: The Council won a possession order for the Spike on 17th December 2008.
The Spike is Dead. Long Live the Spike.
Thank you to all who have been part of this magnificent community.
Emerging from the free party scene, the Spike Surplus Scheme landed in 1998 in an abandoned, fly-tipped, burnt-out building.
This building was formerly The South London Children's Scrap Scheme, and before that, the administrative block for the largest Doss-house in London (check ‘Down and Out in Paris and London’, George Orwell), providing shelter for up to 1,100 wayfarers a night.
10 years on and The Spike is a beautiful and diverse community space that raises awareness to low-impact living, celebrates the fascinating history of the place, and makes dreams come true.
We have a stunning community garden with free permaculture courses for all; a rehearsal and professional recording space for local bands and artists; a collaborative music production studio aka The Yoda Room; a dojo used for yoga, martial arts and the like, with a weekly drop-in wellbeing clinic offering complementary therapies; a video production space; a cinema and much more. It's all run on a donations basis and open to all. Come check the space… reckon you'll love it.
We have big plans for the future development of The Spike, but we need help.
Southwark Council have decided with no notice that they want to sell the space, without checking the enormous benefits Spike contributes to Peckham.
We can't lose this space… it's too special.
If you have any ideas that can help, please get in touch… oh, And feel free to leave comments about the Spike below.. might be useful for proving Spike Surplus Scheme is not ‘surplus to requirements’ :)

"This split release contains serious, exxciting, sexxy, refreshing, complexx & unpredictable breaking made by 2 breakpunxx.
Disbreakz is kicking breakcore/jungle/glitch with crazy 80s & 90s powerpop vocal cutz and MattiMatticzz is kicking breakcore/jungle with dubstep parts.
To make this release even more punk, cover drawings were made by Simon Gane. "
{03/04/09} - Needleandthread spring hop.. jamm bar, 261 brixton road, sw9 6lh.. 9pm till late.. £5 before 11pm, £6 after..
We be back.. arrh.. with a rather tasty gig..
The line up is likely to take the roof off Jamm with Speakers Corner Quartet at number one on the list. These guys have headlined the Jazz Cafe and opened for Herbie Hancock at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as working with some big names in hip hop.
In addition to this amazing headline, The Sound of Rum who are festival legends with lyricist Excentral Tempest at the helm, will also be on hand to build the vibes (Rob Da Bank is amongst there many fans). Plus Onyx Ashanti and Daisy Kelly Granger will add some serious funk and soul respectively.
In addition to the incredible live line up comes DJ support from the best around. DJ Snuff is a local hip hop legend, founder of first ‘Speakers Corner’ and then he English branch of the global hip hop movement ‘End of the Weak’. Another DJ who recently also re-launched a strand of a global network ‘Balkan Beats London’, DJ Malaka will be blending traditional folk from Eastern Europe with pounding dance music. Add Popcorn Charly and Drusus Germanicus to the line up and you have a funk fuelled, world eclectic vibe of top class music to take you into the early hours.

"4 punx from all over the world (Distonn/Russia vs. Clip/Belarus vs. Midi Fister/USA vs. Disbreakz/Croatia) decided to make a record/split featuring their vision of subversive breaks.
To spice things up, the record cover was drawn by Simon Gane, which makes this record 100% underground.
Subvert glitchy IDM jungle breakz meet punk diy vibe. This is breakcore."
“Viva Palestina” will be an epic journey from London to Palestine.
Hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets over the past few weeks to protest at the slaughter of innocent men, women and children in Palestine.
A convoy of aid and essential supplies will leave London on February 14th a valentine for Palestine; to commemorate this fantastic initiative of people power, an album “Viva palestina” will be produced to add to the financial support.
Are you an artist that would like to headline the album? Or do you know someone famous in the industry who could donate a “track”.
If you would like to help on the album, please call Jay Stewart on 07981966945 or Andy Baxter 07904227517 or email album@vivapalestina.org
