Interests

  • General

I had a great time talking to Tifany Jones at Sistah Confessions. Listen in as we talk about music, soul mates and Where Souls Collide.

    In general. . .

What spare time my family doesn't occupy is consumed by my writing. (OK - sometimes a deadline will switch things around.) Gotta be dedicated!

By day I work for the local office of a national nonprofit. I'm deeply interested in anything involving a cure for Sickle Cell because one of my kids has the disease. As the oldest known genetic disease I figure we should have solved this puzzle by now!

  • Music

Just about anything from classic R&B (Stylistics, Isley Brothers) to NeoSoul (Kindred, Jill Scott), to blue-eyed soul (Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke), to hip-hop (TI, Ludacris) to rock (Nickelback, Chris Daughtry, Fleetwood Mac) and urban contemporary (NeYo, Brian McKnight, Mary J. Blige, Joe).
I also write my books to music. These days, Eric Benet, Chrisette Michelle, Alicia Keys and Heather Headley are really helping the words pile up.
  • Movies

The Five Heartbeats is my all time fave. Ones I can watch again and again include Brown Sugar, Ghost, Valley of the Dolls, Set it Off (the silent phone call scene!!!), The Family Man, The Preacher's Wife (with Denzel and Whitney), Closer, Cool Hand Luke, Disappearing Acts, To Sir With Love and The Matrix Series.
  • Television

Not much. I try to catch Young and the Restless when it re-airs at night. It's the only soap opera I watch and I've been a fan since I was 12.
  • Books

My To-Be-Read pile runneth over!! And it's so much fun to add my own books to my bookshelf!

.. Check out "Conversational Silences" a collection of verse I published in 2005. It includes my award-winning poems and is available for purchase through several online sites including Amazon.com. You can also buy an autographed copy through my web site.

  • Heroes

My parents. Absolutely. Here's a couple of the best things they ever told me:

Dad: "Stef, don't be a woman about a car." This after he asked me if I needed an oil change and I muttered that I didn't know. My life interpretation of that advice is, "FIGURE IT OUT!!" Whether that's life, love, men, kids, career or dreams -- learn what you don't know and handle the dedgum situation.

Mom: "As sweet as you are, you won't melt." This after I balked at standing at a bus stop in the rain to get to my summer job. My life interpretation of that observation is, "YOU'RE TOUGH. GET OVER IT." Maybe I'm past due for a complete and utter breakdown, but I really don't have time.

About me:

I can’t help it. When I start a story – as simple as the plot may seem – I buckle my mental seat belt for unexpected twists and turns I know my characters are going to spring on me. The surprises make for a wonderful writing experience. And if you love contemporary novels that whisk you from ordinary to otherworldly, from “what if” to “why not?” then I hope you’ll like reading my stories as well.

My debut novel, Where Souls Collide, won the Science Fiction category of the 2008 African American Literary Awards Show. I’ve written two novellas: last year’s story, Can You Believe in The Holiday Inn anthology, and my current release, HeavenSent.com in the Holiday Brides anthology.

If you enjoyed the fantasy of The Preacher’s Wife (with Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington), the mystery of the Butterfly Effect (with Ashton Kutcher) or Dragonfly (with Kevin Costner), I think you’ll settle comfortably into my pages.

HeavenSent.com in the Holiday Brides anthology is now available online and in-store!

The holidays aren’t so festive when you’re celebrating by yourself. But with a little luck and a lot of love, three single women find their soulmates and get the holiday weddings of their dreams.

Brenna has a list, and she’s checking it twice. But unfortunately for her coworker Evan, she just doesn’t seem to see him as anything more than a friend. Can an online dating site and two guardian angels change her mind before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve?

Year after year, Brenna Campbell checks off all her life’s accomplishments but one: snagging Mr. Right and tying the knot. Meanwhile, Evan Shephard’s last date convinces him that he hasn’t found the right woman because he’s fishing with the wrong bait: Maybe it’s time to consider the “M” word. As co-workers, Brenna and Evan know enough about each other to share friendly banter and a one-night stand, but don’t have enough in common – they think – for anything close to love. It’ll take a pair of guardian angels and the help of an online dating site to turn Brenna’s New Year’s resolution into her dream come true.

Reviews are coming in for HeavenSent.com:

"***** FIVE STARS! I was sent a galley copy of this novella for an honest review. I am going to assume (yeah, I know the joke about assuming) that the other two stories are as good as this one. Therefore, this book receives the full five stars from me. Stefanie Worth's story hits close to home as she clearly shows how the economic world of today is, as well as how it affects people who live in it. Her characters, both mortal and angelic, are totally believable. Nothing comes across as odd or false. This book is perfect for reading while you are cuddled up in front a cozy fire indoors while the snow piles up outside. *****"

"HeavenSent.Com is a sensuous and compelling read. Stefanie Worth has conveyed a splendid, romantic and angelic story with a happy ever after ending. She has a unique gift for portraying lifelike characterizations which radiate true emotions and designing a plot that is as charming as the story itself. I am sure any reader will find this a delightful and inspiring short story."

"HeavenSent.com is part of the Holiday Brides anthology. Ms. Worth does a fabulous job of bringing readers into this short story while filling it with an unexpectedly sweet romance, as well as heavenly paranormal elements. A fast-paced escape that’s sure to capture reader’s attention."
