Stoneage is a metal band from the capital city of God's own country, Kerala. It all started out about one and a half years back when we all got together at our vocalist's house. And luckily enough, on the first day itself we got a chance to perform at a small venue, a hostel party. We got this chance because the band which was supposed to play there couldn't make it that day. And so we started playing covers of Nirvana, Metallica, System of a down etc. Our first competition appearance was at 'Illuminati '06', a college level fest, where we secured 2nd place although the competition was not much to speak about. Getting together and finding time to jam was the real tough part with strict parents and uncompromising neighbours proving the stumbling block. With a listless performance at 'Dhwani '06', another college fest, things were certainly not looking up.
After this, we missed a long line of college fests due to one reason or the other, ranging from exams to illness. At this time of crisis, we decided to bring in new blood and revamp the band. And so we bid goodbye to our old drummer Bino and brought in Govind. Around the same time, we decided to start work on our originals and that gave birth to the tracks ''The Return'' and ''The Mob''. The first original song ''The return'' is about an innocent man who is forced by cicrumstances to spend a life term in prison and how the soceity turns him into a real criminal when he returns back. The second original ''The mob'' is against the mindless destruction caused by unruly mobs everywhere. We also made changes in our playlist of covers. Nithin chettan of rage helped us a lot in getting some presentable tone out of the worthless zoom processor. He has also provided us with guidance on various issues related to the band.
So with renewed energy and a revamped playlist, we were able to put up some good shows at various local fests like aufait, Nirvaan etc. At Raagam '07, conducted by NIT Calicut we came up 3rd. Our song ''The mob'' also got award for the 'best original song' at the competition. 'K.os', the other band from our college and our seniors in this field, got 1st. Our next stop was the Kingfisher Kerala rocks fest. It was a nice experience to play near the Kovalam beach and we did give it our best shot. So, we were one of the 3 bands selected from the zonal competitions here. Fired up, we composed one more original song ''The final high'', an anthem against drug addiction. We practised day in and day out. But, the shocking news struck us just the day before the finals. Some guy from kingfisher, who doesn't know the distinction between rock and pop, called us up and told that we didn't qualify for the finals. This was after mentioning our name in the newspapers among the qualifiers. After many round of talks with our judges and others, we came to know who played the stellar role in throwing us out of the finals. Thats when we understood about the murky games that goes behind such high profile fests. But we dont give a shit. So next stop was ''cervello '07'' at Nishagandhi, where we came up 2nd behind Rubbur band. After that, we missed some more shows due to exams and all those stuff. So, thats our story until now. At present, we are working on some more original stuff...And we'll be back on stage and rocking you in the near future.
