Le guitariste Sylvain Provost, bien connu pour sa virtuosité et sa grande musicalité, est une figure de proue de la scène de jazz québécoise. Natif des Laurentides, il fait sa première apparition à vingt ans au Festival de Jazz de Montréal, se produisant au Spectrum ( à l'époque: "Le Club Montréal") avec son groupe ‘‘Le Saint-Jovite Quartet’’. Dès 1983, il remporte avec le groupe "Quartz" le prix "YAMAHA" du Festival de Jazz de Montréal.
En trio Sylvain a enregistré plusieurs émissions pour Radio-Canada et Radio-Québec. Aux côtés de son comparse de toujours, le bassiste Norman Lachapelle, il a produit plusieurs enregistrements qui remportèrent nombre de prix et de nominations aux Prix Opus et à l’ADISQ. Grâce à sa polyvalence Sylvain Provost compte depuis plus de 25 ans, un nombre incalculable de collaborations en spectacle et sur disque avec des artistes comme Gerry Boulet, Oliver Jones, Yannick Rieu, Jean-Pierre Zanella, Jean Vanasse, Coco Zhao, Terez Montcalm, Karen Young, Sylvain Lelièvre, François Marcaurelle, La La La Human Steps avec qui il a fait le tour du monde, et autres artistes de la scène québécoise et française.
Avec son nouveau trio "acoustique" composé de ses amis Guy Boisvert à la basse et d'Alain Boyer à la batterie, il offrira dès juin 2009 un album entièrement rempli de ses nouvelles inspirations!

Since first catching the world’s attention as winner of the Yamaha award at The Montreal International Jazz Festival in 1983, jazz guitarist and composer Sylvain Provost has become a prominent and renowned force on the Canadian and International Jazz scene.
For over 25 years, Sylvain has participated in countless events, as soloist, or lead of his own Trio, as concert performer and studio recording artist, and as sideman, arranger, and co-producer.
Along with his long-time bass partner, Norman Lachapelle, he has produced a host of recordings, winning nominations and awards, including the Opus Awards and a “Félix” award for best jazz album at ADISQ in 2001.
His fluid and sparkling style, his exceptional talent for improvisation, and his vibrant melodic interpretations have won him the respect of his peers and the accolades of jazz lovers everywhere.
Past and present collaborators include Oliver Jones, Karen Young, Gerry Boulet, Paul Brochu, Michel Donato, Sylvain Lelièvre, Normand Guilbeault, François Marcaurelle, Terez Montcalm, Yannick Rieu, Jean Vanasse, Coco Zhao and Jean-Pierre Zanella.
Sylvain also showcased his versatility and creativity when he played with Edouard Lock’s Dance company “La La La Human Steps” on its world tour from 1990 to 1994, and with Jean Vanasse and Chinese jazz singer Coco Zhao on an Asian tour in 2006.
On his new album “Désirs Démodés” (EFFENDI Records-release date June 2009), Sylvain introduces us to his new Trio, while adding to his repertoire the more melodic composition he is famous for, featuring the sensuality and contrasts of differing guitar “voices”.
His long time friends and colleagues, musicians Guy Boisvert on doublebass and Alain Boyer on drums, join him on this new journey.
Sylvain Provost has been a recording musician of “Effendi Records” since 1999, and a “LaBella” strings promotional Artist.

I first had the pleasure of hearing and meeting '' SYLVAIN PROVOST'' some 30 years ago (...) I was impress by his great sound and his fiery technique.
30 years later, He is still playing with the same fire and passion. But now with even more experience behind him, He has developed a wonderful sense of balance as is shownin this long awaited CD. Hopefully we will hear more of this very talented Guitarist. (...)

And before you’ve finished your first listening, it will have snuck up on you that the guitarist, who would rather understate than force any issue, is an exceptionally creative soloist. That Provost will always remain an acquired taste speaks to the subtlety and intricacy of his finger work and invention, and commitment to being himself and staying within himself in whatever music he’s performing...
Désirs Démodés should not only be a cinch for a Juno nomination, but is a credible candidate for Grammy Jazz Album Of The Year. It’s a CD that grows on the listener through the power of its finely wrought melodies and discreet originality...
