STRANGE FRUIT PROJECT’S ‘SYMBOLYC ONE’ RELEASES
NEW 12” SINGLE “MASH”
New Album in Stores July 22nd
(Dallas, Texas – May 22, 2008) – Texas’s soulful hip hop producer/performer Symbolyc One, aka S1, releases the first 12” single, Mash from his upcoming solo album Strange Fruit Project Presents: S1 Music Box, on Spilt Milk Da Label/Traffic Entertainment.
The single Mash, which releases on May 27th is a brilliant hard-hitting, beat-knocking record laced with S1’s signature production sounds and funky overtones. S1 continues his ongoing collaboration with rapper Big Pooh and the Little Brother Crew (The Minstrel Show, The Art of OneMind, and The Healing) by enlisting them as guest emcees on the project. However, this time he adds Houston prodigy Kay of The Foundation to the mix. This latest union advances their like-minded mission of diversifying the face of Southern rap while sharpening hip-hop's dull creative edges.
The B-side track entitled Be Sure, features Brooklyn’s “Street Messiah” DV Alias Khryst, who delivers the smooth harmonic MC vocal stylings for which S1 songs have become popular. These same haunting vocals were captured on De La Soul’s 2000 release Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump album, which earned the group a Grammy® nomination.
The single Mash is the perfect introduction to S1’s 2nd solo album Strange Fruit Project Presents: S1 Music Box, due in stores on July 22. Named after S1’s reputation for churning out classic hits, Music Box features an array of hip hop veterans including songstress Tone Trezure featured on Snoop Dog’s Rhythm & Gangsta LP, Rah Digga of Flip Mode Squad, and Speech from Arrested Development. West Coast newcomer Young Blu joins Strange Fruit Project’s extended family members Bavu Blakes and Darien Brockington to round out this eclectic release.
S1, a Waco, Texas native, emerged as a solo artist with the release of Art of OneMind (BBE Records, 2005). He is best known for being one third of the hip hop group Strange Fruit Project. Their album The Healing was awarded among iTunes Top 25 Hip Hop Albums of 2006. In August 2005, S1 co-produced the Ghostface Killah song Milk’em which debuted number 2 on College Music Journal (CMJ) charts. He has collaborated with such artists as Slim Thug and Chamillionaire. Currently he is a core member of Erykah Badu’s electronic production group, the Cannabinoids.
S1’s tracks have been licensed for such hit TV shows as CSI, MTV’s Run’s House, and the top selling video game 2KSports NCAA College Hoops 2K8. Visit www.myspace.com/symbolycone.
